Hey, sorry only just saw this now. Answered your post in PM but for the rest of the crowd, if they're interested, the NEC should fit fine and work and be detected fine as long as it's version 2.xx. Version 4.xx firmware (reverse ATA NEC's) might have some problems. Not 100% sure.

does this mean we'll have to take out our cryptography books again to decipher typing from the broken keyboard of your old machine?

I play Counter Strike alot, so BN has nothing on noobs that do it on accident :-/

You know what, fellas? I think that within the next two weeks, I will have ordered a notebook. It is weighing in at between 75% Z71v and 25% XPS2. I basically just have to find them and hold them to see which one I'd feel most comfortable with, but giving a few points to the XPS2 for GFx and a few to the Z71v for battery and size... *sigh* this is so hard!

Hey, can anyone else a slight buz in the fan? It's weird because it cuts out briefly if you click on something. It's not by any means loud, but if your in a quiet area it can get a little annoying.

if those are your ends, would a Dell 9300 be a middle ground? It's somewhere between your two "extremes."

krankitup: Yep, I definently noticed a slight buzz on battery. Sometimes it went away, but some times it didnt. Pressing a key or something stopped the buzzing while the key was held down.

And I got the other laptop to work... the num-lock key was broken, screwing up all the keys, and so I bought an external keyboard. Pressed num-lock on the external keyboard...laptop keyboard works!

Quick question, sorry if someone asked this earlier

Is it too heavy to carry around all day? Or maybe just half the day?

It's got average weight in my opinion. You can carry it around all day, and it will work fine, but I'd recommend using the shoulder strap on the laptop bag to avoid tiring out your arms.

My Asus Z71V has the tweeting noise, when running on batteries.
Was this problem resolved?

I figured something out that resolved the noise for me...
when I change the cpu performance to 25% or 50% the noise goes away (becomes very faint)... but on 75% or 100% the noise is present.
I have a 1.86Ghz btw.

I'm also starting to consider the Z71V , but looking at coboc.com....
(still want Turion, but time is running out.... )
Couple of questions though:
1) Anyone ever bought from there yet, and if so, what are they like?
2) If I were to buy a barebones system, do you think it'd come with the integrated wireless card? I know I need to get the chassis, cpu, hd, memory, and optical drive... but wireless card...?

Thanks!
