Winbook X4 problem

Hi,

I have a Winbook X4 that is about two years old and is out of warranty. Within the past few weeks it has started to lock up on me after varying amounts of use. Once locked up I have to do a hard shut down and when a restart is tried the power will come on, but it will do nothing. Just sits there with a blank screen, no beeps, nothing. If I wait 5-10 minutes it will start properly but eventually locks up and the cycle continues. I have tried formatting and a fresh install off of the recovery partition with neg. results. I did a complete format and installed a fresh version of XP pro off of a CD and still the same thing. I am thinking that it is a heat issue with something, but the fan is working etc...HELP!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Steve

I think you are right to think it is a heat issue.

the fan may be working, but is there dust in the air intake? Is there a thick layer of dust on the CPU's heatsink? If there's a lot of dust, then it could easily overheat the laptop, even if the fan works.

Winbook X4

Kent,

I thought about that(and also that maybe a reseat of the CPU was needed) and tried to open the case. I took all of the visable screws out, but couldn't get the case split. I didn't want to push the issue and screw it up worse than it is. Any ideas on getting it apart?

Thanks,

Steve

You typically don't take the case apart like that

You typically unscrew screws from the bottom, then lift the keyboard up. From there, you can access the innards.

Best bet is to try and find a disassembly guide for the notebook, or send it in for service.
