Alienware has finally Pissed me off - Page 2

Hammer is right...be sure you're using two leads right from the power supply, not daisy chaining them off of hard drives.

Well, just to set the record straight, I said the bigger issue is determining the exact cause of the problem. It *could* be a faulty power supply, it *could* be a faulty video card, or it *could* be that Nebulous is like the guy who used to work in the office next to mine - anything he touched that was even remotely electronic in nature would stop working. I always thought he'd make a great test engineer...

Regardless, glad to see the issue is being resovled to Neb's satisfaction.

The Midas Touch

Actually, I have several disgruntled users, I work in I.T., because every computer I touch starts working. I only wish I had the same effect with the ladies.

How generic. WTF does working in "I.T." mean? That is like a McDonald's employee and a chef for a five-star restaurant saying they work in the food industry.

Working in IT can mean many things. Where i work, tell someone you work in IT and you'll likely be strung up and torched.

I guess it has to do with the recent rollout of a workstation image that uses 200 MB of RAM with no apps running, and most of the PCs having only 256MB of RAM (thank God mine has 1GB RAM). We work a lot with databases, so you can imagine the problems....

Mcse

MCSE, A+ or just a smart A.. like the last 3 posts. Rather I say Information Technology, Information Services or Janitor, I work on computer problems like the one I'm having with my own, all day long. If you want a pissing contest use someone elses thread.

Don't discount it, I will always hire an expierenced tech with an MCSE over another without, shows a bit of extra iniative on someones part. Plus I like to ask the expierenced guys why they did not bother to get it, if it's soo easy. Those test are frusterating, and they require a good deal of studying. (well not the A+ but I took it back in 96 so I have no idea how it is today.)

Anyway, I hope they get your power supply issue starightned out.

Nor does the High Power HPC-420-302 DF by Sirtec deliver 420 watts - as might be supposed from the name - but rather a maximum combined power of only 400 watts. Although the Sirtec power supply unit delivers this maximum power level in a test run, it breaks down on the 3.3-volt line - without shutting off.
not good. maybe THG got a bad unit?

It is good to hear that you will be having your 6800 in your system.

I see you have placed the order for it already and should be getting everything soon.

Take some pictures of the extra items.

Update

I did order a 6800 Ultra directly from Alienware today. Although the power supply data Atsu provided is frightening, I will rely on Alienware's expertise about the rated power and its compatiblity with the new 6800 card. However, I would bet money the power supply is going to fold after 10 minutes with the new card as well.
Who'd of thunk i'd ever be in the position of having too many 6800 Ultra cards ?

Nebby a lowly data entry person can say they are in IT. Have some pride. Use a real title. My current title is Intermediate Software Engineer. Before that I was a Senior Software Engineer. Before that I was an Instructional Assistant II in a college computer lab. Those of you who have been around here awhile know what I did before that . . .so what is your title? Janitor or Systems Analyst?

Job Description

After I was forced out of the Gigolo union for not being able to dance, I became, you guest it, a Systems Administrator. At least that is what it says on my business card. Me and another guy administer a 250 ~ machine network, including a dozen Microsoft servers, a half dozen linux servers and a smattering of Solaris and HPUX machines for a small medical company.
I'm currently seeking a position in International Espionage, or Marine Sharpshooting, I haven't decided which.
