Well, as my config shows I will be getting a 480wt psu, with the 6800 card installed. I hope AW has gotten rid of all those bad psu's. Or is it that the 6800 card just will have trouble with a 480wt psu?
dont worry about it, AW wouldnt ship it if it wasnt going to handle it.

Alienware 6800 Ultra arrived

The vidcard from Alienware arrived today, it is a BFG just like the one I purchased from Monarch Computer. The only difference between the cards that I can see is that the unit from Monarch says "BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra Overclocked" and the unit from Alienware does not say overclocked. The other difference is that after an hour on Farcry the powersupply had not shut down. Leading me to wonder, if the powersupply shutting down is caused by overclocking, whats going to happen if I install a second hard drive and some cool blue cathode ray tubes ??? Starting to wonder if i need to upgrade the PS also.

Lastly there were no "Extra Items" in the box and I am very sad.

so when you got the new gpu, there weren't any games? cd's? dvi to vga adapters? Glad you got everything resolved, and if it's a BFG 6800 Ultra, it is OCed just check your coolbigs, it should read 425mhz and i think 1100mhz memory

Wtf

Coolbits had 400/1100, then I noticed the 2D setting was selected rather than the 3D. 425/1100 is what I have now. Played for 20 minutes, no problem. I really dont understand why the card change makes a difference.

No cds
No dvi - vga adapter
No cool box
No free offers
No Extra Stuff
No 5'6" Brunette (Sans apendage)

No shutting down after 10 minutes.

hmm, oh well, at least you dont have any more shut downs, btw did you take some before any after pics? Do any before and after benchmarks?

Keep us with some pics and benches.

Apparently the card you got from Monarch had issues, it happens.

The BFG card is just a standard 6800 Ultra, but they use arctic silver and reseat the heatsinks, then clock it from the standard 400/1100, to 425/1100. I have a BFG OC and it's been great so far.

Decisions

This does leave me with another decision, having two BFG 6800 Ultras in my possession, should I wait for Nvidia's recently announced SLI motherboard for Intel processors and install it in my current computer + 510W PSU. Or send the first Ultra back, be happy for a while and save for a Aurora 7500 ? I'm leaning for option #2

wow, thinking of upgrading already haha? well since you have 2...I would...

1. see if you have 1 yr or 3 yr warranty. If I had only 1 year, and when SLI comes out for intel then you can upgrade yourself...if you got the 3 yr warranty then I would go w/ option 2

2. since you have 2 pci-x ultras, you can always DIY an AMD platform and use those cards in it and put the original GPU that came w/ your area 51 back

either way, you will have the best of both amd/intel worlds and of course pics would be great through out the process, which ever u choose

no upgrade

I under clocked the over clock on Ultra #1 and it also seems to be fine. I'm thinking Ultra #2 goes back tomorrow. And I will start stuffing my piggy bank for who know what ...

that comment was out of order. Some of us that don't use braindumps to get mcse's actually know what the hell we are talking about..

Just because dump sites are out and people memorize answers does't mean that everyone with the cert does that. And fwiw the MCSE is not an 'Easy" cert to get - if you think it is, get one.

then get a ccna, ccnp and come talk about your it prowess and how easy all these tests are.

While i concede that a larger portion of mcse's obtain certs using dump sites... that is also why i display my early achiever card with pride.. as it proves i did it without said sites.
