I agree - I thought the IBM drives were the best around. They had the one unfortunate series (the so-called "DeathStar") that almost single-handedly ruined their reputation, but before then (and since - under the Hitachi name) they're proving the problems were just a blip in the radar.
I also want to back Brendan's opinion on the WD JB drives (haven't worked with the JD series). They come with a 3 year warranty (as opposed to 1 year for their other models) for a reason.
