Need help buying a laptop

Hi all, I am planning to buy a laptop. This is my very first purchase, and so I am not sure where to look for the best deals.. I basically want a Celeron M laptop, and I have refined my search to Toshiba. I went thru best buy, circuit city and compusa, but couldn't find a good deal. All i found is a M35X-S161, which is for 779 $... I found the configuration quite sufficient, but the price seems high..

So can anyone help me out with this... Are there any other websites or shops frm where I can get a good deal. Also, is there any particular time (season) where I can get the best deals.. Also, is there any website from where I can get the email notifications of the best deals on my desired laptops...

Hope to hear from u all soon,

Thanks and regards...

how does the price sound high? $779 is cheap for a laptop. Understand that you're recieving an LCD monitor and all of the components in a very small form factor for that price.
The best season to get the deals just past us in the November / December months.

Digitalpunk, thanks for ur reply... Well, its a CELERON M processor, and not Pentium M... and I think that 779 $ is high for a celeron processor... also, I read on this forum somewhere that someone bought this same laptop for under 500 bucks...

thats an extremely cheap price for a laptop, and i am aware that it has a celeron processor. im sure that the person on the forum you were talking about bought his laptop second hand. i would highly doubt that you can find a laptop for under $500

Do not buy a Toshiba

I'm living a nightmare with the Customer Service of Toshiba right now. Do not buy a Toshiba.

the m30/35 series is a good one, and toshiba is a good very reliable brand...i know that PhaserKB is having some trouble with them and is mad, but he is only one person. Don't take any one persons review of an entire brand based on a single bad experience as the absolute word on that brand, look at all the people on this forum who are very satisfied with their toshiba's and ask yourself, phaser is mad, but why are all these other people happy with their systems.

Personally i think that the price is prettymuch right on, maybe a little bit high but not alot at all. you can check out places like www.tigerdirect.com and www.newegg.com for deals, but from my cursory check they both seemed to be higher than the price you have already seen, so my suggestion is to do more checking, and to ask for advice on what you are thinking of and then get the best deal you can, and don't think that because it is compusa or circuit city that it won't be the best deal becasue sometimes it really is.

ditto after 2 years of (bad) experience.

I recommend Dell, I've bought 7 computers from them including laptops and desktops and have never had issues with their products or customer service.

Just ask many people of their experiences in "Dell Hell". No matter which company you choose to buy from, you won't find a single company where everyone who purchased from that company, and I mean _everyone_, has had a perfect, positive experience.

Whichever retailer you pick, check out http://www.resellerratings.com and look them up. In the end, it's nearly like flipping a coin.

P.S.: Personally, I like the look of those M40's (YP3)
