According to Tom's Hardware, the difference is about 40fps.

Strange that Dell rates the XPS 2 battery life as "better" while the 9200 gets a "good."

The Ultra performs almost twice as well as the regular.

Yes, I did read the footnote... but apparently I can't read

But still... the difference between a i9300 with x300 and a i9200 with a mr9700 can't be that big. Sonoma requirers a little more power, and the x300 is slower than the mr9700.

I belive my calculations are still valid, although they are based on so many assumptions that they are far from exact. I just wanted to see if I could get an idea about what to expect.

I would never buy an XPS Gen2.
It's expensive, I don't like the design, and I do want good battery life...

But I also want to play Half-Life 2 with all the eye candy on a WUXGA screen, which effectively reduces the number of notebooks to chose from to 1: The i9300

I consider 3,5+ hours of battery life to be really good, for what is essentially a true notebook with true desktop performance.

1-3 fps is more like the difference between the ultra and the desktop 6800.

I really love my 9200, and I'll probably stick with it, but if I were buying a new lappy today, I agree that the 9300 is probably the best thing going.

It looks like they fixed the WUXGA. They basically doubled the GPU performance. They kept respectable battery performance. And they kept all the other nice features of the 9200: great keyboard, light weight, subwoofer, etc.

The XPS2 is too much power, too much heat, and too much flash.
