9860 burn victims - Page 3

I find it amusing that our generation no longer accepts the word of a professional, rather we look to the internet for proof. And I'm not flaming - I do it too

I experienced the same thing with my 9860 w/ x800 card. It was burning hot. I even used a dish towel so my skin wouldn't come in contact with the left palm rest. I didn't get any burns like you did though. I just propped up both the front and the back and ever since then it gets warm at most. Prop up the front if you have it still, see if it makes a difference.

I've often wondered how much microwave energy comes out of laptops. 2GHz and above is up there in the Microwave range. Although heat is heat, maybe you are also microwaving your arm. Anyone got one of those things that light up in a microwave?

my 6800gddr3 exhaust is warm to say the least. If you got burned so bad, why did it get to that stage before you pulled your hand off the laptop?
Why would he make that up? You're such a sad little fanboy.

I think that is definately possible.. albumen burns @ about 55°C... not very fast but it does..... So if u geht this temperature down on any part of ur body for longer time u will get burned...

Yes, and your friend has had the chance to make a diagnosis of his arm

Your brain wouldn't let your arm touch an object that hot long enough to cause a burn of that intensity for more than a second. Enduring prolonged exposure to a hot surface long enough to cause that reaction would be masochistic. Are you a masochist?
It looks more like multiple monkey bites.

I GOT AN IDEA!!!

Since no one here is a Medical Doctor lets wait for a diagnosis from a REAL Doctor about this! There's an idea!

I find it kind of hard to believe though. When i Put my hand on the palmrest to reach the AWDS keys to move in games my palm reaches the tip of the laptop's front part and your burns seem more like an inch down your arm from your armrest. There is no way I can get a burn like that on my arm . I could maybe on my palm.. But then again maybe I have a very big hand lol but I doubt that.

Umm. My head hurts. Doctor, tell me what's wrong. Well, in my professional REAL doctor opinion, you have a headache. hehe

i think this thread is a joke...come on...like the guy is going to keep his arm there while the laptop is secretly trying to burn his flesh away. The ONLY thing that is, is a complaint about a sweat rash after too much gaming...

Maybe you have a good unit and he has a defective one.

Only one way to know though... send that sucker back to them and have them test it... whether ornot there's a problem with it, it's obviously not for you. If you can, send it back to PCTorque if they'll accept it... that way they can test it and verify how hot it gets.

and Im 5'10". I mean i am not saying it is not a problem for the person who made this thread. If it is, by all means send it back. You shoudnt have to live with a burn. Raising the front part of your laptop and purchasing a small USB fan directing air to your left palmrest and the touchpad helps keep my palmrest and touchpad cool to the touch even when im in World of Warcraft or HL2 or CSS.

Mind you my palmrest got hot and uncomfortable to the touch too for me. THats why i went out and bought a USB Fan directing air to the palmrest. And its only 5 minutes before my instincts tell me to raise my hand off the palmrest when i feel it burning. The DDR3 cards do churn out a lot of heat and I don't expect anyone with these cards to have a perfectly cool left palmrest when playing intensive games.

Thread Starter
Wow this thread exploded while I was gone.
I think you are misunderstanding me. The palmrest is not what burned me. I place my hands on WASD. I have the laptop sitting on a box, to keep are flowing and to prevent it from burning my legs. My arm then rest on the side of the laptop. The air that is blown out from the 7-1 reader is what is burning me. That is why it is on my wrist/forearm. My arms are not fully extended when I use it so the left arm doesnt come straight out. It is bent and hangs off the side. I have no intentions to sue, though I have been asked that by many people. I knew it was hot after the first or second day. That is why I used a dish towel to cover my arm. I kinda got used to the intense heat and didnt really notice how bad the burn was after about a week. When I noticed it, it had started to bubble. Any nonbelievers can call Sager and ask to purchase the notebook I sent back. I had a 30 day return gaurentee, so I didnt need to make up a reason to send it back. Hopefully it was just my unit that was defective. I really liked the 9860, minus a few things that I will put in a review, I am already missing EQ2. I am not really concerned if anyone believes that this happened. Others said there unit is extremely hot aswell. The nurse that looked at my arm said that they mild 2nd degree burns. Also I dont sweat when I play games, they are not really hard work. LOL

A problem you may be having is you are coverting the vent with something on the left side, that makes it REALLY hot.

I just keep the rubber piece they gave with the laptop in there at all times. It prevents and air from flowing out of it. My laptop doesnt get above 59c either with the thing in there.

Holy shit. If my lappy got that hot... Oh hell yes Id return it
post #60 of 61
you do realise that people sweat when they get hot dont you? Not just when they are working hard. If the heat from the exhaust was blowing on your arm and your arm was trapping that heat your arm would sweat in an attempt to regulate your bodies temperature. this is a natural reaction to heat and an automatic bodily function. This isnt to say that your Lappy isnt doing bad things to you but your comment about not sweating seemed a little odd to me since we are talking about some type of excessive heat.

I would recommend you toss out that Box you are useing and go out and purchase a $15 Laptop cooling fan base. Look man it doesnt matter if you go out and get something else or you keep the 9860 but when you spend $2500+ for your machine go for the extra $15-$40 for some propper cooling. It will help the longevity of the DTR as well
