i think ima dumarse: part 1

here's the deal. i'm in this tech school and i've so far taken two A+ related classes(PC Upgrade & Maintenace; Peripherals). I ace both with an A. I think i know my junk. Over the past few months I've been buying bits and pieces to build my first amd-based system. A few minutes ago I break open all the packages to get started and lo and behold...i get stumped at attaching the friggin mobo to the friggin case! wtf!!!!!!

the case has about 25 screws and about 5 different sizes. there is no documentation included with the case. as you can see in the picture: at the left i have a screw with a red washer. there is another red washer(not pictured), for a total of two in the package. next from the left is a plastic clip with threads at one end, also a total of two. in the middle is an L shaped metal clip of sorts. the two goldish bronze items on the right are all-inclusive male-female screwy attachment dealios of some sort. really befuddles on these, there are a total of 2 of each size in the kit.

any help is really appreciated. i can't believe i've already hit a wall. this does not bode well....

I have my A+ and i gotta tell you that look more complicated then it should be...that and i have NO clue exactly what problem your having. Anyway, as long as your form factors match (ex. ATX MoBo with an ATX case) you should be able to just screw the mobo down with no problem. That silver thing with the tab is most screwed into the side of the case somehow and that tab will hold the "faceplate" that goes on the rear of the case (you know the pretty color coded plate with the holes for all your ports).

If you have any other questions PM me or post it up in here and i'll do my best to answer them, i'm just kind of confused about exactly what your stumped on. Hope that helped just a little.

*edit* the faceplate i mentioned should have come with your mobo

When you get a case sometimes they come with several different types of risers. Take your motherboard line it up in the case with PCI slots and the backplate where all the ports stick outs. Then every place on your mother board that you see a whole with a little round metal circle around it is where you place a riser. Normally most people just use the brass riser in the far right of your picture. Once you have all the risers in place then reposition your motherboard over the screws and screw it into place. TIP: don't tighten all the screws untill you have all of them installed. The red washers are a throw back to when the holes in the motherboard for the screws were not insulated so no using them would cause a short. Today most boards are insulated. If you wish to use them just place them on the screws before you screw them in.

Also check this PC building guide. It even has a picture that looks almost like yours. So I'm sure it will help. Especially if my description was confusing.

I have not certification, but I have build eight different computers.

Dumarsety

As this so elegantly proves once again, all of us suffers from dumarsity now and then, but thankfully we have these forums to seek help and find a cure. And, once again, that help and cure has come through. Case closed, smiles all around.

Bananas all around too!

and for these forums i give eternal thanks. the mac folk to whom i previously have forwarded all of my quandries have turned their backs on me with my first wintel purchase. and these sager/talk notebook forums are as close knit and helpful...possibly more than....the community i was part and parcel of; my fellow macgeeks.

I'm a long time Mac user, and if I had any idea about what your problem was I might pass along any info I had. But I haven't been in close contact with a windows box since the eighties, so I don't know jack. Actually I know a Jack but nothing about what ever it is your problem is, or something like that. Anyway most of my friends have an us against them attitude when it comes to windows users.
