The "I own a XPS/9100 and i'm not going to sell it" thread - Page 2

Heck, I knew when I bough mine a new better one was not very far down the road. There is always one, and gosh I'd like to have them all... but I can't

My Old Inspiron 7000 is still running and I expect this one to live as long.

Yup I'll keep this one for a few years unless I win the lotery, then I'll have them all

I do believe Dell did put up a nice package with the XPS gen 2 and I can't imagine in a few years what laptops will look like.

I'm keeping my 9100 and going to buy MR9800 in few months.

i also thinking to buy a 700m for secondary machine

I see so much luv for XPS/9100. I still luv my machine but...

ok here is what I think

First I was gonna buy a Pentium IV EE 3.4 but it is more than a grant
Second I was gonna buy mem upgrade and the mr9800 but but but but but

when I want to sell my lappt after a year or so it will sell for 1000bucks what the heck?

I know whatever you throw in it, the old model is an old model!

gotcha?

But let me tell you I still LUV my machine it is an awesome lappy best ever had so far, phanomenal(or whatever it is

I think it's been mentioned before - no computer is an investment. If you go in figuring you'll be able to sell it at the other end for decent $$$ you're going to be disappointed no matter what you buy (same thing will happen to the XPS2, and anything from AW, Hypersonic, Sager, Apple, whatever). Unless it's studded with gold and diamonds, the value is going to plummet. That's life.

Buy something that does the job, then use it until it doesn't.

Now, if the job you need it to do is be a silicon status symbol, then I guess you need to get a new lappie every three months. Then you might need two laptops at a time, though - the latest DTR for fire breathing power, and the latest hot subnote for impressing people when you're out and about....

I just got mine from my brother for $250. He just purchased the Powerbook 15". After using mine everyday for the last week. I am extremely happy. I will never sell it. My desktop will definately go first.

Keeping mine, but am considering upgrading the cpu to P4 3.4 EE, if the price goes down.

Not looking at replacing until 2007.

awsome, more people are keep'n their machines than i would have though... THE COMMUNITY WILL NOT DIE! ... MUAHAHHAHA... this brings me to my next point... we should really try and mod that mr9800 and unlock EVERYTHING, then see what the xps gen 2 people have to say (god this feels like the older brother is going to try to overthrow the younger one) i dont know about the rest of you but i'd really like to see what the mr9800 can do w/ 16 pipes and all the shaders and vertex thingys unlocked. our comps might catch on fire but what the hell, it might be worth it!

keeping mine

People are selling the notebooks, not destroying them - it means that other people are buying the notebooks and they will come here and might be more useful/skilled then old ones - new blood

Keeping her.

Ditto...

Keeping it!

i'm selling mine, but now that i've come across some new ideas for unlocking extra pipes in the 9800, i'm somewhat reluctant. well i've got a few days left before that auction ends.

keeping it, no sense changing new laptops everytime there is an upgrade made. Plus, mine rocks

i'm getting the xps2 coz i like the lesser weight and the extended battery life. i'm on the road alot. but i'm not abandoning this m9800 project until we've fried every m9800 out there. i will post more in the "m9800 forefront" thread

Come on, you can do better then SirBA. There were a lot other notebooks with "the lesser weight and the extended battery life".

I'm definety keeping mine as well. This is still a great system. I will consider upgrading the video card when the MR9700 slows down the gaming enough to justify the expense. I am very surprised that so many people are jumping ship to the Gen 2 without even waiting to see how it does wrt quality - after all it is a new system - have all the bugs been worked out yet. Plus the price relative to the increase in performance does not seem to pan out. I will keep my iXPS until I need to change to a newer system.
