Not sure if i would like the bar in the middle of the screen though...

Yeah, I don't dig the bar either. I'd pay up to $1000 extra for a qxga screen on a 5680 *drool*

I don't get it - I thought Eurocom basically rebadged the Clevo products - ok the screen is different but what else changes?

I would prefer to buy a Sager from Adam and PCTorque . Like ioburn maybe we can get a special order for the QXGA screens.

maybe he's implying that sager/clevo are also "known for their crappy products"

Some guy was pissed enough at them to make this site. Other than this site and the general stuff I have read about them on these boards I don't know much about them though. I have read enough to know that I won't be buying anything from them in the near future though.

Man that guy has and axe to grind. Thanks jeffro for the link.

It brings up some ugly questions tho. I do remember reading elsewhere on this forum about the power connector being a bit dodgy on the Sagers. So this seems to be a design flaw of some of Clevo's models. It does bring into focus what does Sager do that is any different to Eurocom.

From what I understand Clevo manufacture and assemble the laptops for Sager, Alienware and Eurocom (amoungst others) - what do the OEM's then do? add disks? load sw? Maybe Adam can shed some light on this because it does not reflect well on all of Clevo's products including the Sagers.

Is this just a one off?

Yeah, I know what you are saying because most of the stuff that guy bitched about would have been something the Eurocom had little to do with as far as the design. What I didn't like was the customer support stuff. Sager seems to have a good CS and warranty but the 8890 (when it gets here Thursday) will be my first Sager so I can't speak from experience.

Eurocom is also overpriced a bit too.. even if you compare the us prices..

The vast majority of those complaints are about computers purchased in 1999 and 2000. Back in those days, Dell still made the bast machines on the market. These days, Dells suck.

With the pace of change in the computer industry, you really can't judge a company's hardware based on reports three-and-a-half years old. Which makes it hard to evaluate hardware quality, but it's an unfortunate fact of life.

As for QXGA - you really think you can read text that small? QXGA is serious overkill.
