Yes, the US. I don't know where they keep the refurbs in the UK, but the situation with the US refurbs is they are basically already analysed and ready to go before they post them to the refurb site, and they are as anxious to get them out the door and out of the way as you are to receive it, so as long as the payment clears without any questions and the order does not have any issues (bad address, or you try to change something after ordering, etc.) then they go out fast.
My friend did buy an 8600 this Christmas for his girlfriend on my advice, but he used his Dad's credit card and set the shipping address as his own place, but didn't pre-authorize the shipping address with the ccard company. (dummy, I wish I had fore-warned him about this) so the CCard payment got held up and Dell contacted him some place weird, and when he didn't call them back in a day they cancelled the order, but he didn't know it 'til like a week later. So he ended up buying some cheapo, bigger, heavier, uglier, worser Compaq at Best Buy for MORE because he was out of time and it was an important gift. Whew, I've been needing to get that off my chest for a while. I was so pissed he botched that purchase, I never said anything to him or her, because I didn't want to make them feel bad. But she ended up with this crappy laptop, when she could have gotten a better one for cheaper. Let this be a lesson unto you!
