PCTorque/Adam - 6800 Ultra coming - myth or truth?

I have seen a post made by Adam @ PCTorque saying that the Ultra is coming out only in April earliest, but others are hoping to see it coming next week or in 2 weeks. In fact, there isn't even any news/rumours from PCTorque, Sager, Clevo about the 6800 Ultra. I think Adam even said, it's impossible the Ultra is coming out soon without us resellers hear anything from Sager. Unlike X800 which has rumours from Sager & resellers weeks before its launched. I am getting a 9860 but not sure whether to buy now or wait for the Ultra. The waiting game is never going to end until 10860 comes out in 2006 . But no, my laptop runs HL2 at 8 fps , I can't stand another month.

Do you have to ask... I mean come on we are a bunch of gamer/programming/hardware geeks over here. I want an Go 6800 Ultra in my 9860 just as much as the next guy. We release information as it becomes available. When it becomes available you will see a news announcement with pricing and a review comparing to the previous cards. For those that are announcing shipping in the next 2 weeks.... I wish them the best of luck in their ventures.

Thanks Luke

Most importantly Adam or Luke, if and/or when the 6800 Go Ultra does come out, will it be upgradeable in the current 9860 system? (with minor/major modifications to counter heat issues?)

If and when .... yes

So i'm confused. The ultra draws about 3x the watts. I know the motherboard can supply that but it seems this might really cause lots of heat problems. So if and when the ultra becomes available, just from a purely hypothetical standpoint luke, do you think chipset modifications or core clock frequencies might need to be changed?

WOW!!! If thats true, that just kicks arse.

Too early to tell... I will simply need to wait till they send me one to test... man I love my job

I hope sager hurrys up. When I was shopping around I also saw that GamePC was selling a a NVidia QuadroFX Go 1400 for $340 in their Celvo. Of course their notebooks are IMHO way to expensive to even consider compared with PCTorque where I ordered mine on monday. Is PCtorque/Sager gong to be selling this card?

I've yet to see a new Clevo model release or confirmed tested option ship from anywhere before Sager began shipping it. As far as listing it on another website, it's usually listed on non-Sager websites first. There's two main ways companies seem to be releasing models and options from what I keep seeing:

1) Release it as soon as you get a hint of it being a possibility.
2) Wait until there's a confirmed ETA that is likely to be fairly accurate and have demo models on location you've verified working.

#1 is usually done for marketing hype, you put it on your website first, people will think you have it and the others don't. This may get you more pre-orders and get your name out. Your name gets out, but over time not always in a good way as you get labeled as selling vaporware. This is because the release is highly subject to change. People start to get mad when they begin wondering why it hasn't shipped yet because dates keep getting pushed back, specs keep changing, and features may even be dropped. This also can make certain manufacturers mad and they hold shipment for weeks of the new product to punish and restrict sharing info with that company on future releases. Some still feel it's worth it though and keep on just throwing whatever up on their site to be ordered in hopes they will pull extra sales to make up for the negatives that comes with it.

yes....sadly i have noticed this too. im just hoping that sager gets some news or something next week just so that i know hypersonic is telling me the truth on this. they say that the wuxga is currently shipping, but sager doesnt have it. they also say that they have samples of the 6800 ultra, but sager doesn't have it. i think the only time i can recall hypersonic/eurocom having something and shipping it long before sager was the amd 3700.....but i could be wrong.

In talking to ones at Sager and Prostar, they state they have no info on a release of the 6800 Go Ultra or the wuxga as PCTorque already posted. If you can wait till April maybe that will change.

So.... J4ever I thought you didn't like Hypersonic anymore or was that an act. Last time i checked we banned you for being what is best label a "troll" and you seem to be back to doing the same, we got complaints about you from forum members and even hypersonic. Remember, we had to remove your flaming post by request of Hypersonic titled "NEVER BUY FROM HYPERSONIC".... or am I totaly off on this one?

hmmm, j4ever just happens to be a guy who was nuts about Hypersonic making posts daily about new things they had and how great they were and Sager sucked. Made up a lot of stuff like that Sager didn't test their units and things along those lines when he had no experience with Sager and was just posting flames for no reason. He made a ton of members send complaints asking he be banned. Then he made a post with a personal attack and we considered removing him but let him go until he made the flaming post saying to never buy from Hypersonic that Hypersonic asked to be removed. We realized it was pointless keeping him on the forums after the flames, hate, and problems he was causing so finally removed him.

You're not good at all at hiding it, we just finally decided to call you out on it because you're already making members mad.

OK, so people want proof, let's start with a reseller rating J4ever made:

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2081.html

Notice, the review was submitted by J4ever @ reseller ratings on 2-22-05 about an hour before noon. Just over an hour later, this post was made on the forums (notebookforums.com) by RaiderRod:

i just posted my review of them on resellerratings. it'll be 48 hours before its there. the thing that upsets me most si that all of last week they were telling me that it won't work (6xx series). i think that because they thought it wouldnt work, they didnt even order them and were simpy waiting on other companies. now that it works, they are going to take their average time to do anything (including getting out of bed and going to work) which is 2-3 weeks before they make it available and then probably another 2-3 weeks after that before it is in stock, and then another 2-3 weeks to build/test it, then another 2-3 weeks before they ship it. Honestly, they must want people to not buy from them. I think what I will do is auction this laptop on ebay and transfer the shipping of it from Hypersonic to the ebay auction winner. Then I will use the money to buy from pctorque. that has to be faster than hypersonic.
Here's the facts:

-RaiderRod says on 2-22-05 just after noon EST "i just posted my review of them on resellerratings" (meaning Hypersonic)

-1 hour and 14 minutes before your RaiderRod's post, J4ever made a review on reseller ratings under Hypersonic.

-Hypersonic had not had a rating submitted before that J4ever review for 22 DAYS! and didn't have another until hours after RaiderRod's post here saying he had just reviewed them.

Look at the specs of the machine J4ever has listed in his review and look at the one in RaiderRod's signature.

RaiderRod:
Hypersonic EX7
Pentium 4 650
WUXGA 1920x1200
8x DL DVDRW
DVD/CDRW Combo
nVidia Geforce 6800 Go DDR3 Ultra
2x1024 Corsair/Crucial DDR2 533 PC4200
2x80gb SATA Raid0
WLAN+Bluetooth
Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook
No Dead Pixel Policy

J4ever:
Aviator EX7
Pentium 4 650
2x1024 PC4200 DDR2 533mhz
Geforece 6800 Go DDR3 ULTRA
2x80gb SATA Raid 0
8x Dual Layer DVDRW
8x DVD/CDRW Combo
17" WSXGA
Wireless/Bluetooth combo

The only real difference being the LCD which RaiderRod posted about changing in his order.

I could go on and on with proof, but no point in me giving away my many methods of finding this crap. I'm sure this is proof enough.

I may be a janitor with a cute lisp, but I'm not stupid... well, not THAT stupid. So now the question is what do we do with this guy?

OMG!!!!

PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam,

IMHO - Once wasn't enough. I say "Off to Elba" for the Raider!

For those that don't what "Elba" is, it is an Exile Isle located off the coast of Italy much used by the French in earlier times.
OT: Elba is also the first island that Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to. He did make a comeback, although only after 11 months.

If this doesn't work, we could always try for St. Helena (Napoleon's 2nd exile island).

Regards,

zakaluka2.
