I have an extra 80gb hard drive, the website says the m70 can use 2 hard drives.
is there any way to have the second hard drive in, and use the dvd-rw drive at the same time? (god I hope so... how else to install software on a second drive?!)
The M70 has a single modular bay in it. You can have the DVD drive OR the floppy drive OR the "extra" hard drive OR a second (six-cell) battery in it. If you purchase the Dock (not the port replicator) there is an additional modular bay (and PCI card) built in. I have my floppy drive in there (since I never need it at home) and I carry the extra drive, the extra battery and the DVD drive around with me so I have them when I need them.
I took apart the extra hard drive enclosure and looked inside. The unit has a part number of 8T687-A00. Dell sells the unit with a 40GB drive already installed. Mine has a Fujitsu MHT2040AH PL drive.
