I have got my D810 beast last friday and I had it out of town with me for whole weekend. So it allow me to see how good it is with traveling and usage. So far, I am very pleased with it. Here's detail review.

Specs: read my signature!

Price: 2,320 dollars after taxes

Review: When I first opened the box and took laptop out. I immediately noticed the sturdiness of the laptop. So I opened it up and let it warm up for a bit before I turned it on since it was in UPS truck entire day in 20 degrees weather. While I wait, I checked the keyboard, trackpoint buttons and so on. Keyboard is VERY stiff! Not a single of flex like 8600/D800 has. So that part is definitely fixed! Then I checked nipple's buttons (trackpoint to those who don't get the humor). The buttons are very responsive. It doesn't mush like old 8600/D800 does. It give more snappy feedback. When the laptop was on, i checked the response of the buttons, it really is very responsive! So that part is FIXED as well! When the laptop is on, I looked for the dead pixels, there's none. w00t. But it has some backlight leak which is normal for any laptop lcd so I already expect that. So it doesn't bother me at all. The bios is definitely different! It has menu style with everything in there. It even allow you to turn off ethernet, modem, minipci, and so on. I really like the bios configuration. It makes my life lot easier! After using the laptop on my lap, the heat underneath is bearable. It's definitely less heat than 8600 since I had 8600 twice and it was unbearable to be on the lap. The battery life is great on this laptop, it last good 4 hours on normal usage. it last 2 and half hours while running a dvd movie. So for those who want to watch full movie on the plane, your all set. What else...... Overall, this laptop is one exceptional machine and I have no regrets after expecting problems with inspirons. I don't think I can ever go back to Inspirons ever again. Also, I find that the video card is upgradeable. So since it use same form factor as 9300. So I am gonna get Nvidia 6800 one day and upgrade it! That's pretty much it. I am hoping to post the pictures soon using imageshack site or whatever it is. Anyone got questions? I am happy to answer them.

have you tried the headphone line out, is there any feedback or whine noises? like the issues on the D600 and D610?

very nice review, i can't wait to get mine! i think to upgrade the vid card you'd have to do some heat modding wouldn't you? but it's nice to know there may be the ability to upgrade the vid card. I can't wait till i get mine!

no plm. you won't be disappointed with yours. trust me. ;-) only problem I have been getting is wireless software thing. with intel's software, it took a while to connect. but with winXP's native program, it connect instantly but speed changes. so I don't know what's good solution, anyone knows?

I received my laptop today, and I am very happy with it. the only thing that is weird is the up, down and mute sound button located on top of the keyboard. the down button work perfect, but to use the up and mute button I need to press very hard. so maybe measel can check this issue on his computer... it's not a big deal, maybe a bad part.

I am highly interested on the BIOS because I think they finally decided to implement a generic Phoenix BIOS instead of the Dell's regular one.
The BIOS now follows the same form factor/menu driven split page as Dell's current desktops...I'm pretty sure it's still a Dell (not Phoenix or Award) BIOS.

Is the video card in fact upgradeable? Is there any confirmation on this? That will pretty much negate any reason I have for spending the extra money for the M70 as the D810 will provide a good video card in a 15.4" screen and it's produced by Dell (This is valuable to me as my college provides repairs for Dell and Apple machines on campus).

If this upgrade is possible, where would I get a 6800go from?
