one last desperate attempt

I had one more quick question...I am pretty sure that my hard drive is dead...largely from what people have said on these forums. But before I send my computer back in to sager, i thought I would try one last thing since I had read someplace that it might be the motherboard instead. I know it is a desperate try to salvage some data that wasn't backed up, but thought it was worth a shot. I went down and bought an adapter for to attach my notebook hard drive into my old desktop. My desktop has a spot for 2 hard drives, but when I attach the mobile drive it doesn't find either hard drive. So i didn't know if I this was because the mobile drive is dead or if I didn't do something right...I dont' know the configuration of the old desktop...

any ideas are apprieciated...

try a USB enclosure to recover your data, when you are done, return it

You need to set up one drive as a slave. The adapter or drive should have a dipswitch of a plastic jumper to allow you to make it a master/slave.

Or, put it on the other controller.

Each controller can handle two drives as long as they are set up as master/slave. If you set up both as a master or both as a slave, you will get the exact problem you described

Also, u might need to upgrade your ram, but try their fixes first, upgrade the ram as a last resort.....
