Shocking

I have a Sager 8890 and rather than try calling tech support and trying to understand their english I thought I'd ask this here first.

I have my laptop plugged into a mini surge protector and that into a wall outlet. The surge protector has only 2 plugs on it and is made for computer stuff and has a power LED and a ground LED on it. I notice that when both lights are on everything is fine. However, there are a couple of non-gounded plugs in the house and when I've had to plug into them I find that depending on where I touch the plastic case I can get a small but persistant shock. The most noticabl is on the front left corner where the silver color plastic is where I would rest my wrist for support.

This doesn't seem safe, and it also doesn't seem right that it would be putting out a continous flow of current.

Has anyone else ever noticed this?

Persistant as in if you leave your wrist there it continues to shock you?! That doesn't seem right at all! It's obviously something to do with the non-grounded plugs, but I have no ideas how to help.

Sager tech support are very good - though they use a callback service some people don't like. My view is it's better to get someone who actually knows their stuff at a time that fits their schedule than to get a useless foreign guy at a time that fits yours. Never had a problem with their English, but if you want to be certain, ask for Billy (he's cool ).

I experienced the EXACT same problem, in the EXACT locations you mentioned (front left corner near the border) whilst I was in Denmark, plugging my 8890 into an adapter to fit in their 2-prong sockets. I didn't have any resulting problems, but it did get somewhat irritating. Of course, I only had to deal with it for three months; if you're going to be dealing with this perpetually, you might want to look into getting the electrical company to install a new outlet for you.

interesting you mention over seas. I first noticed when I was in Italy for a couple of weeks this summer. Annoying.

And yes - it is a continous electrical current that flows through there.

Thanks for the input guys.

Man, that's kind of spooky. I haven't encountered any shocks, though I've only ever used it with grounded sockets (both in the US and UK). It got me thinking though, is the front left corner the only place? My front left corner is the only place on my entire machine that's shown any sign of wear (from my left arm/watch I'm guessing). Is it like that on your two machines too?

the location where the palm rests on the front left corner has lost all its paint on my system, from extended use (especially when gaming, tee hee), though I'm starting to see some wear under the right palm as well, just below the arrow keys.

It looks kind've bad, but I'm really proud of it; gives it character, and shows that I've definately gotten my money back out of the system

I've had the same shocks from one particular power outlet in my house and nowhere else. It likely has something to do with the grounding, like you suggest. Might I recommend one of the 3-prong adapters?
