on the uk site it's a there and then descision...if you choose only a year you CANNOT upgrade the warranty at any other point. So having spent every penny one owns AW expect you to stump up another 167 quid for another two yrs warranty

Charging for warranty beyond the first year is standard practice for most computer manufacturers. In a way, it makes more sense than building extended warranty into the base price, as this way the buyer can make a decision based on how long they expect to use the system and other such factors.

I agree Joe my problem is that alienware uk don't give the option to pay for an extra two years during the first year, you have to do it when you buy the machine or forgo the right.

most of us want to take the time to get some cashflow back

The US website does not say either way. I think what we need here is one of the AW reps who frequent here to answer your question.

Moderators, is there any way to get their attention to this?

If you can't afford a cash purchase, use credit. AW offers a credit card if you don't have one.

You must make your warranty decision before the system ships Alienware's facility. I don't see what all the noise is about. This is Alienware policy. and its commons sense that You can't always get what you want. If I wanted a bigger motor in my truck when I bought it but I couldn't afford it at the time then that seems like my problem. Yea, I could always buy a bigger motor now and Doom3Groupie can always contact an insurance salesman and get an extended computer policy for his computer. If anyone wants information about the Alienware warranty you should Call Alienware.

The question is not if I can,or can not, afford it at the time...I,personally,want the option. This IS an option that US customers have so why do I not get it because I'm a limey...how is that common sense mate?

I might be wrong, but I thing the Agent ID # is for affiliates. ie: Owners of websites that have Alienware ads, etc. sorry. No Ads here at NBF. actually. Not Sorry.

US customers can't upgrade their warranty later.

Yeah, that is why I got the three year warrenty off the bat. I am putting it to good use too, my laptop is going back to depot for the second time. Not that anything is actually wrong with it but when I had the onsite tech guy show up to install the new hard drive AW sent me he was too lazy to get a mounting screw out that fell into the case when I was on the phone with an AW tech a few weeks prior. So, I called AW and told them that the onsite guy didn't do what he was supposed to do, I could have installed the hard drive myself, heck I even had to help the guy do it when he came. The real reason AW sent him out there was to get the mounting screw out of my case for me, because if I went and tried to open it up on my own I would void the warrenty. That is not something I want to do. So, yeah I am going to have to send it back again to have AW get the screw out, which means I am going to be without my laptop for at least another week. Hopefully this is the last time anything needs to be done to my machine. Oh, I should say that the first time it went back was a week after I got it because the gpu cover on the chassis was not installed right and I stripped a screw trying to reset it myself. I have nothing but praise for AW's customer service. So far, even though I have caused most of my problems (except for the hard drive dying), they have gone out of there way pretty much to set things right.

I guess we all know this immutable truth concerning computer warranties:

If you get the one year warranty it aways goes wrong just after the first year.

If you get the three year warranty it will probably be fine.

DeathBringer769 cleared it up.

Currently US customers who are under warranty can purchase an extended warranty.

Only one extra year can be purchased for the extended warranty.
