Where to buy 9300 1GB RAM ? - Page 14

Well crap..9300 is here...hard to assess with just 256 memory. So, I just pulled the trigger on the Newegg Transcend...hope there is no trouble with it working. When it confirms order I will cancel the Kingston May 2 order.

Kingston's own website has a Valueram 1 GB PC-4200 SO-DIMM stick for about $148 shipped from Computers4Sure.com. But then if you go back to the homepage and search for memory by type of computer (Dell Inspiron 9300), it lists a 1GB stick for $217 from Computers4Sure.com. But no specs other than it works in the Dell Inspiron 9300.

Differences???

Just probably higher quality components that is guaranteed to work with the 9300. Most people have been reporting that the ValueRAM stuff works though.

I'm a firm believer that "higher quality components" doesn't really mean any noticable difference except for the fact that they can charge double or triple the price of the RAM because people with laptops think that they can only buy ram especially made exactly for their model.

If you're laptop's motherboard works with non-ECC, unbuffered, 1.8v PC2-4200, then it damn well better work with any non-ECC, unbuffered, 1.8v PC2-4200 module unless it's some crap company who doesn't know how to make RAM.

I already ordered rom CIC but if I can't get my Kingston ram for another two weeks I might try emailing that spartan company to verify that there is no mistake with labeling it PC2-4300. I believe some DIMM modules have been named that, but the part number does in fact match the SODIMM module on the corsair website.

Hmmm Intresting....

Ordered the Kingston 1gb ddr2 533mhz ram on 4/7. After going through what all you have with the constant, next day it'll be here, next week crap... I decided to cancel my order w/ memory4less at $127 if it wasnt here by 4/18 as the memory4less reps said. Well I called on monday and of course, it'll be in on wednesday, but you can have this exact same speced one...bla bla. I must say I felt a little like they were doing a bait and switch for the price, although others were delayed. They did charge my card a week b4 and I though enough is enough, Ive been charged yet I have nothing, price is great but they'll go back down eventually... Im cancelling. Called mem4less, cancelled on 4/18 and sure enough, I get the stick of ram today. Kinda funny. Havent had time to put it in yet, and wont until tonight, but I am intrested to see if I get charged or not. If I do not, ill return it (I believe in Karma and the fact that stealing is wrong) If they dont refund me, I just may keep it. Good luck all!

You can believe what you want, but the fact is that some of the previous Dell Inspirons were really picky about the brand of RAM used even though they has the same specs. The best example is with the Insprion 8500 that would just freeze up and the only way to make it work again was to hard reboot the damn thing. After the restart, the computer would freeze up again randomly, it could be 30 seconds, 5 min or 2 hours. Eventually people figured out that it was the memory that they upgraded to that caused the problem and Corsair even had a special chip for Dell Inspiron 8500s.
The fact that these cheaper component RAM with identical specs work with our 9300 is probably just luck. But to say that it doesn't make a difference everytime is not true.

O man! Well, I ordered the DDR2/533/pc4200 sodimm igb Transcend from Newegg and have it overnighted...my level of apprehension is high!
I just called Memory4less and they told me that Kingston didn't ship any of their orders, so he asked if he could overnight me some Simpletech stuff because Kingston might take until mid-May according to them. Hopefully I get my stuff tomorrow then.

I get the feeling that there are supply issues with the Sonoma laptops starting to pick up popularity AND that memory prices have fallen.
wow...Kingston's website has a new date of 05/03/05. I guess simpletech it is.
arggg... I want it now...
Now my order info at Kingston says "in stock", as does the memory spec sheet itself! WTF!
I put in 2 gigs of transcend from newegg and it works fine...

Just wanted to find out if anyone has had any luck with mixing the Kingston Valueram 1GB sticks with 1GB of Dells own RAM. I went the single stick 1GB route from Dell so that I only had to buy a single stick to upgrade and just interested to know:

1. IF this works.
2. HOW MUCH performance increase was experienced.

I am not in a huge hurry to upgrade as I am basically only using the computer for WoW atm, but apparently the extra gig is useful in reducing lag...

Cheers

Joseyu like the above poster I just got my 1GB DDR2 $127 sticks that I ordered from memory4less today. Upgraded me to next day shipping for free so at that price I can't complain.

Plopped both sticks in my M70 and have been running it all evening. (why is an M70 owner hanging out here? Found out about the memory on this thread and thought I would contribute a point of data back).
cool....did you run memtest on it to check for physical errors on the chips?
Sorry too busy plaing games. I got my M70 with only 256mb so this is the first time in a week I've been able to see if the graphics chip is OK for me. So far it is. Playing COH and places where my old laptop would turn into a slide show are smooth as silk even at 1680x1000. I'll try to start memtest before going to bed at night.
