But if you order the 1GB Kingston ValueRAM from Newegg, it would cost you $221. Others paid $131 at CIC, while others paid $127 at Memory4less.

might be the wrong kind. just remember these specs:

Memory Module for Dell Inspiron 9300
Package Type: 200-pin DIMM
Logical Type: 128x64
Speed: PC2-4200 / 533 MHz
Description: Non-Parity, Unbuffered
Units Required: 1
System Type: Standard SODIMM

Newegg doesnt have it. So for those who ordered the Transcend from Newegg, you might be get frustrated after u find out that u got the wrong one. I think only Kingston have it right now. No idea if the 240-pin kind will fit. Enlighten pls.

No, the 240 pin will NOT fit. The Transcend from Newegg is compatible, at least by specs. It's 200 pin SODIMM DDR2 PC4200.

The 9300 and XPS 2 both run 200pin Sodimm DDR2

Full Spec's
Package Type: 200-pin DIMM
Logical Type: 128x64
Speed: PC2-4200 / 533 MHz
Description: Non-Parity, Unbuffered
Units Required: 1
System Type: Standard SODIMM

Here is Micron's list for 200pin
http://www.micron.com/products/modul...package=SODIMM

And here's the 240pin (which is not physically the same ram, it's got more pins and will not work in our laptops)
http://www.micron.com/products/modul...d&package=DIMM

Now I'm wondering if 2 x 1GB sticks will run in Dual Channel Config, I know some desktop motherboards can't do it depending on the configuration of the memory itself (i.e. number of banks and size).

I ordered from CIC, just hope it doesn't take too long to get it.

Well, I went to memory4less and specifically looked for SimpleTech...they only offered the 184-pin and for the rest of the laptop memory, the 200-pin they have doesnt include the PC2-4200. So what gives? Am I searching blindly? Or the "intarweb" refuse to find it for me. LINKS. LINKS.LINKS. Godda$#%$&^%(. LOL

I dont think it is still the right memory though. Its Logical Type is listed as 64 X 64 whereas Dell listed it as 128 X 64. Any difference?
No difference... Several people have already gotten the ram and are using it without issues.

Hehe, why the insistance that the memory is wrong?

Simpletech specs are HERE

Not extremely detailed, but enough to know that it's 200pin and 1.8V PC4200 DDR2.
Well, cuz I dont want to blow my hard-earned money for a piece of memory that wont fit or work. I'm sold on the Kingston anyway. Your SimpleTech will eat dust. Like the name suggest, Simpletech for "simple technology".

If you read the post you will see myself and a couple others are using the Transcend. There is even a post about the difference in the 128x64 thing.`
