Dell gave me free accessories!

I just got my exchange item for my inspiron 700m and to my surprise, they sent me the whole package again. Since it is an exchange, i was under the impression that they will send me JUST the laptop portion of it as they told me, but I got the whole thing, like the 8cell battery, ALL the softwares including windows, AC adoptor etc.

I just got off the phone with customer care and the rep told me that I just had to return JUST the defective 700m without the battery. So that leaves me with 2 of everything else.

I even asked them specifically, "are you sure that you guys want JUST the laptop from me?" and he replied with his heavy indian accent, "yes sir, you will keep everything els since your exchange item will arive just with the base unit without any accessories." but apparently that was not the case. i was like kay:

however, it does mention on the exchange's invoice under MY ACCOUNT's order history on dell's website that my exchange was sent along with everything else.

how could they make such mistake? also, i noticed that the total cost of the exchange 700m is a lot more expensive, roughly around 1600 dollars for a 1.8, 2 dimm 1gig, 24x/DVD combo. initially i bought my 700m with 600 off coupon so i got it for much cheaper. how does this exchange policy work? are they going to charge me the 1600 dollars first and then just credit me back exactly that amount once i ship them the defective item?

They won't charge you anything unless they don't receive the defective laptop back within 30 days of shipping you the replacement.

so basically it looks like i'll be getting away with this then. lucky me. the extra 8cell battery alone is worth 70 bucks. I dont even really need it!

Could be used...could be after-market which aren't actually made by/for Dell. COuld be they got a really good deal. Who knows? I won't buy one unless it's an actual Dell P/N.

ok so would anyone be interested in buying this off of me? I have NO USE for it whatsoever since I already own a 8cell battery and i rarely go truly mobile with this laptop. descriptions given above. brand ass spankin new 8cell battery for Inspiron 700m. Just received it today. please note that i do NOT have the battery "box" as it came with my replacement laptop. I'll sell it for 160 US dollars and I will pay for the shipping as long as you are in U.S. if anyone is interested let me know.

correction. Dell screwed up (again) the Indian guy couldn't understand and I sure couldn't understand him. I got a free cheap ass battery and I'm delighted,Dell are making 60 billion a year selling shoddy goods at inflated prices....we're both very happy

I seriously doubt anyone will pay that much for it - like you said, they go for no more than $100 on eBay. And when Dell offers a decent discount, you can get them for $130-ish or so direct from Dell.

I don't think the warranty would apply either, would it?

ok. i did a bit of a research and you're absolutely right. 160 is too much. so allow me to make a correction to my price. I'd be interested in selling it to anyone on this forum this 8cell battery for 110 U.S. dollars shipped. I would still be glad to pay for the shipping as I got this for free. Sorry about the rediculous 160 price tag. i didnt know much. so let me know if anyone is good for 110 dollars shippied. thanx!

Man, try to quit trolling and post something useful. Frankly why you are not banned or at least given a week off is beyond me. I am sorry that Alien Ware does not have an XPS 2 type lappie right now and that they are getting their asses handed to them on a silver platter. Considering they are a lot smaller company than Dell and Dell makes much larger profits it was bound to happen that Dell crush the smaller companies once they turned to the niche gaming market. Enjoy your 20 lb desktop replacement and leave the Dell forums alone...

I got a 17" contour case and a quick snap cover from Dell on top of the 9200 and the bluetooth and the doubling of my ram and the quicksnap cover that came with it (the leather one). Pretty much I just bitched that the computer was bigger and therefore my bag (which I spent like $20 less than what this new one is worth) and quicksnap cover would no longer work. Let mer just say how much I love this new bag and well, I have a quicksnap cover to spare/sell.

I would be weary of what the rep said....basically, if it says on the invoice that accompanies the replacement computer that you have to return certain things, then that is what you have to return. And when it comes to paperwork or oral communication, paper always rules.

It also states return policies on their website, so you cannot feign ignorance. The problem with chomping at the bit to sell the extras is that you may be caught in what I call negotiations if by chance you didn't return what was required for you to return on the invoice. Remember, you received the invoice and there it is in black and white. I would error on the safe side, don't sell the parts just yet, and see what happens once dell receives the package.

The cost on the invoice is the retail cost which does not include rebates etc.

exchange works like the following: you call, they agree to replace, they send you replacement, you receive it with an invoice. the invoice stipulates what you have to return, you put everything in the box, take the return sticker off of the invoice and put it over the label on the box. call the delivery man to pick the package up, they come, make sure you have the driver sign the bottom of the invoice, you keep the signed invoice, they take the package. dell will automatically generate a bill for the replacement and send it to you. You can ignore that bill when it arrives if you have sent back everything that the invoice requires you to send back in. If you do not, then you are required to pay for what you do not return. You keep the signed invoice in case tehre is a problem with the return delivery.

hey thanks for your detailed and insighful post. But Dell did NOT send me a real invoice. I got a piece of paper that was attached to the box which states on the top "THIS IS NOT AN INVOICE." It just lists all the items that are in the box. Also there is NO return sticker anywhere to be found in the box and there is NO label on the box where the return sticker goes onto. Like I've stated previously, this doesn't look anything like an exchange item. it looks identical to the initial shipment that I got.

well, there should be a way for you to return the old lappie you are replacing it with.
