Long time lurker 1st time buyer questions

Hello hello hello,

Well after a full year of research i am gonna order a notebook tonight.

I had my mind set on a 9700 vid card but now with this PCI X stuff i want one of those.

So Question Is there an AMD notebook with the X600 or X700?

If not then ever when?

Second if i gotta wait for it then i am just gonna get the an AMD notebook with the 9700 vid card.

But the only place i see that has a 15.4 in. AMD notebook is ibuypower and cyberpower. and after reading on these forums for a year ive come away with the feeling that these companies are not very helpful. So where else can i get a AMD notebook at a good price?

Also, can i upgrade the 9700 vid card to the X700 or X800 after i buy it?

Thanks for the help.

The Sager 4750 is avaliable at PCToruqe. It is the same base notebook as the ibuypower and cyberpower, but I would say PCT is much more reliable.

No. The xYYY require PCI-Express, and a notebook with the 9700 will not have PCI-E. As well, the X800 takes up more space and generates more heat than a 9700 does, so it needs a different chassis.

Ya but thats the 17inch.

I was thinking of the 17inch but will be hauling my laptop to work on the "L" Does anyone bring there 17in laptops out of the house to work and back? 10lbs does not sound too heavy but it is "big" looking.

64MB is good enough for most game since a MR9700/X600 will only be able to run HL2/Doom3 at 1024x768 in med detail. the 64MB is more than enough

i recommend The Acer 8104, it has the X700 and a Pentium M cpu, Pentium M for laptops imo are better since it lasts longer on battery, alot of people say they always have their laptop plugged in but what about that 1 time where you need the battery life? that 1 time always comes around sometime

I think RJtech has some good prices on the Z80k and z81k. I am really in the same boat as you at the moment. The thing is I am still torn between the z80 and z81... and as I stay torn, I keep drifting into the 'waiting for turion/x700 notebook" pool...

Anyhow www.rjtech.com they have good prices and customizability.
