Hi guys. I think i'll return my i8600 to get the new i6000 very soon. but I would like to know if it homes with 7.2k rpm HD or with a 5.4k

thanks!

The 6000 has 4200 rpm hard drives. It does have an option for a 7200 - 60gb drive though. It's a $119 upgrade from the 40gb 4200 drive.

There's probably been 10 threads or more where people said they're returning their 8600 for a 6000. I don't get it. I'd rather have the same specs except better video card for the same price. Is it just looks they want?

Does the Inspiron 6000 look better than the Inspiron 8600 ?

it definitely DOES look better. better build too. there's some competition issues on vidoecard but overall a better system. the media controls lit up when you press on one botton. sweet

I agree, im keeping my 8600, i need to play CS: Source, COD, and others. The specs are so similar, even with the pci express that the real issue is Looks vs. graphics performance.

Yeah, at first I was pissed at their cancelling the 8600 line, but it didn't really get replaced. I'm happy with my purchase.

I would be happier if Dell didnt cancel my original 8600 order. But oh well, might as well look on i6000's ability.

Here's a question guys. Should I change my i8600 for this i6000? Here are the specs of both. And is the x300 better than a 9700?

Ok, but for the same price, would you take the i8600, or the 6000?
From what I understand, the i6000 has new technologies that the i8600 doesn't have.

And is the x300 better than the 9600?
There have been no laptop comparisons that I know of yet, but the 9600 might have a slight edge in graphics compared to the x300.

It is no guarentee, but the i6000d may be upgradeable in the future whereas most likely the 9600 will not be.

anyone using the i6000 with the base WXGA model? I am thinking that maybe I should upgrade to the WSXGA? what is the main difference in the two -worth the extra 70 bucks?

No. At 96dpi, the text in wordpad is just big enough to see. Any smaller would be rediculous.

I think that question is subjective. I would say go for it, I went for the WUXGA because in Word I can just change the document size percentage to increase the font so I can read it very easy.

I got the i6000 with the WXGA screen. Overall, it's OK. I noticed no problems looking at pics, surfing the web, etc. But I was disappointed with the viewing angle (you need to find the 'sweet spot', and the corners of the screen looked a little washed out even at that optimal angle) and how DVD's looked on it (grainy). My new i6000d with a WSXGA screen shipped today. I'll hopefully find this thread again and reply with my thoughts...
