"ACER FERRARI 3400+ OR ASUS W1SNA ???"

Hi , I considered myself to be a new bie in laptops worlds.
And i need help From all the Pros out there to advise me to choose a good laptop for me :P
.
Anyway my first laptop was a Texas Instrument Travel mate With P 150 MMX
that was long ago, now it already died :P
after that i use a desktop system cause i have a trauma using laptop as my texas Instrument suffer from a lots of bad sectors on the Hard Disk

But soon after that i bought this So called "desk note" from ECS which is bassically a laptop without a built-in Battery, with Celeron 1,0 Shared V card, 256 MB, and 20 G hard disk, it's very basic, but i'm quite satisfied with it,
Cause i Find desktop to be very untidy on my work table, alot of wires and eat alot of spaces

Anyway, now i'm in search for a "real" laptop as time for me to upgrade from my ECS desknote.

I will use it mainly to surf the net, Making Excel, managing and editing my videos, picture, and MP3s. Gaming wise i only play those like NBA Live, or Championship Manager, Im not in to those 3D games.
Ill connect it mainly to AC outlet, as i Seldom bring my laptop around, so battery life is not a big problem with me. And i want a 15'4 Wide screen.
Anyway i want it to be good built and last long.

Im Still Deciding to buy either
The Acer Ferrari 3400 with 512 MB ram
or
Asus W1SNA Spek: 1,8 Dothan,512 RAm,80G 4200 rpm,dvdrw,ATI RADEON 9600 64 MB.

The factors that i like about the ferrari is that it uses athlon XP64, so i think it gonna be "more" future proof than the asus's dothan right ??
but I like The Asus more in Designs, SXGA Wide screen, and the cool a;uminium casing.

the price is about the same between those 2, right here in my country.

I'll mainly use it for internet, light gaming (the sims, fifa, Nba live), office works (Word and Excel), light photo and video editing.

so which one is more suitable for me?
can any pros here give me some advice , thank you
and also does the "RED" of the ferrari look ugly , cause basically i;m not a fan of ferrari,
but the Specs and the price is quite tempting :P

Please help me to decide ,
thx

Acer Ferrari 3200

There isn't an Acer Ferrari 3400+ unless you manually purchase the AMD64 3400+ yourself and replace the processor
post #3 of 29
i think he is getting confused with the ferarri 3400LMI model, it has a 3000 CPU but the model is 3400. stupid acer naming scemes

Acer Ferrari 3400LMi w/ Athlon64 3000+, 80GB, 512MB, 15in SXGA+, DVD+/-RW, Radeon 9700, WinXP Pro (Specia

ups sorry
yeah it's right the ferrari 3400

which one is better , built quality, etc??

or asus W1N ?

thx :P

personally i would take the ferarri, it has WLAN and bluetooth, the asus has no internal bluetooth as well as 1 less USB port, the asus looks sexier though (stainless steel/aluminum look). also the ferarri has 128MB instead of 64MB for vram

yeah for the looks, me also more in to the asus aluminium rather than to the red plastic for the acer,
but for the value , which one is better since both are similar priced.

I'd go with the ASUS for three reasons:

1) Better specs. Sure the processor on the Ferrari is better, but that's going to make as much difference as the more RAM and faster HD in the ASUS will make. The difference in video cards won't be noticeable because you're not doing any intense gaming. (Though you said it only had 512 and a 4200 RPM HDD... the W1 I am familiar with has 1024MB RAM 80GB 5400RPM HDD)

2) Screen. You state you want 15.4" - the Ferrari is only 15"

3) Two year warranty vs. one.

still headache heaadache ,:P
i dun want to change my lappie for every 1 year or so,
i want it at least last for 2-3 years before i need to upgrade again.

the W1N in My country has 80 G 5400 rpm, but still 512 MB of RAM

i want the W1N with ferrari Specs! :P
or may be buy the ferrari and give it new paint job :P

What about the Asus Z80k, it has the other Asus specs, with a vidcard like the ferrari, a processer like the ferrari, and the ability to get it with different ram and hd.

it's not available in my country

anyway for the comparison,
i get the best price for:

ASUS W1SNA:
-1,8 Centrino Dothan
-512 Ram
-80 G 5400 rpm
-9600 ATi Radeon with dedicated 64 MB Vram
-DVDR/RW
-15'4" WSXGA
-2 years international and local warranty.
price US$2150

ACER FERRARI 3400:
-Athlon Mobile XP 64 3000, 2 Gig
-512 Ram
-80 G 4200 rpm
-9700 ATi Radeon 9700 Pro wiht dedicated 128 MB Vram
-DVDR/RW
-15" SXGA
-1 year international warranty only (black market)
PRICE US$1600

With one is a better buy if you were me.
and does the acer really more future proof as it's equipped with 64 bit compared to ASus?
and is the 64 bit really make difference in near future ??
and also the biult quality, which one is better, please guide me here :P
thaxn

Are you sure it isnt available where you live? I believe it is available in the non us as the A4000 or A4000k maybe. That is the international model no for the Z80k platform I believe.

Of the 2 you list, I perfer the Acer, because I am a fan of the AMD proc, and also, the HD and Ram in the notebook can be changed. The vidcard in the Asus can not.

The asus would have better batterey life though, and in all reality, both would be able to do light gaming.

I would go with the Ferrari. With the money you save buying that, you can upgrade to 1 Gig of ram and a 60Gig 72000RPM hard drive. Those specs will be superior to the Asus and still come out cheaper. That's if you trust the black market though And while there is no garentee that 64 bit technology will become standard in 1-2 years time, you won't be left in the cold if it does.

As for quality Ferrari owners luv their notebooks but i would lean more to Asus for over all desigh and durability.

I say ASUS because you don't need the extra power...not when you're using excel - probably not even when editting videos.
The widescreen is a great plus too... and you get 2 years of global warranty.

Ok, performance upgrades aside and given that both systems are comparable is it worth it to you to spend an extra $550 for a 15.4" widescreen or save that and go with a 15" screen instead. Depending on your answer then you know what to get.
But he wouldn't be paying more for just a screen...he also gets more/better warranty, a faster hard drive, and in his opinion, a better case design.
Then take into account that he loses 64 bit future proof. NX bit protection. A better gpu with an extra 64Meg of ram. Also bluetooth and a gigabit network card if he picks the Asus over the Ferrari.
I agree with the majority. Go with Acer Ferrari 3400 Series.

1) It is cheaper than Asus W1N (I personnally think the Asus W1N is WAY OVER PRICED!)
2) It has a much better video power than Asus
3) It is a chick magnet
4) It is faster! 64Bit ready to use Win64 when it get release later this year

All you need to do with the Acer is

1) Replace the crappy 4200RPM drive with 7200RPM drive
2) Up it to 1GB memory

then you will rock hard!

Thx for all the trouble :P
anyway i just saw both lappie in flesh earlier today at some computer exhibition.
And really like the sexy look of the asus even though it's less sexy than those pic on the internet, but still it;s very classy and solid :P
As for the acer ferrari, it simply doens;nt please my eyes, the red lid is not too bad, but the ferrari logo is very cheap looking , and also the red on the sides which are not smooth, looks like some cheap toys.
i'ts doesn;t look classy at all, but surelly a head turner, but INMHO is worst than in the internet picture.

I'm still decideing, as i want to buy it on saturday, and now i lean more towards the ferrari, after deciding and taking advice from the majoroty of the forum :P

Now what i need todo is to try to dislike the W1n Design,
and try to like the ferrari red colour :P

until saturday, i think i will not sleep well :P

Thanks once again for the trouble.

Well, the hardest part is deciding which platform to use.

If you leaning towards Acer Ferrari because of the AMD-64 designs, you have other options with lesser color design.

Uniwill 258KOA series and Asus Z81 series are both excellent AMD-64 laptops. They are more customizable than the Acer Ferrari and Asus W1N series as they are more OEM/ODM designed laptop and you could mix and match the processors, memory, and HD you want in there

If you are leaning towards Intel platform, then there are Uniwill 259IA, Mitac 8050, and Asus M6Ne series amongs many other which offer great performance and features as well. Again these are OEM/ODM designs and you could mix and match them as well.

Look at the FAQ sticky for locations and feature specifications on them. There are also reviews on them already done by various users on this forum.

Good Luck.

Regardless of what the people of these forums say, you are the one spending the money so you should be the one happy with what you are going to buy. the Asus i definitely a nice looking computer and should be able to do everything you ask of it. So go with your gut.
