When is the next revision?

Hi guys/gals,

just writing to ask when the next revision of powerbooks will be out?

I am looking for a powerbook since getting rid of my TravelMate8006. My plan was to wait for the g5 release but i am thinking that those will be very expensive and to me it is a waste of money spending thousands of dollars on something that will get outdated so quickly. i believe the g4 (32bit) will be supported for a long time to come still.

So perhaps nowish 'might' be a good time to buy something since the prices have dropped... and also buy something that is not top of the range like the 15" with 128Mb video card just for mild future proofing when tiger comes out. Or perhaps the 12" but i have heard from users of the 12" is that it is way too small.

Any info or suggestions would be most welcomed

Also... has anyone seen or had experience with uneven illumination of the 15"powerbook?? i read on apples discussion pages that there was this anomaly where a dark patch appears at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I also had a pb15" this time last year and actually got it sent back because of this and also because of failed attempts at fixing it. Just wondering if this is the case with current revisions.

cheers.

rob.

MWSF will probably see another update.. although i PERSONALLY don't think it will be a g5, i do think there will be a speed bump, again. Who knows.. maybe a redesigned line.

yeah i ditched my TM8006. i bought it for much cheaper than a reseller could buy it for. and that was brand new. so i sold it at my uni for what i bought it for lol.

basically i chucked it because i grew up on a mac and have a distaste for windows. i have a p4 3.4ghz HT as a desktop running windows and one windows box is enough for me lol... but i truely ever feel at home when i am on a mac.. i know there is not much difference now interms of software but i like the feel of osx and the fact that it has a complete and free programmers workbench in terms of gcc etc...

i also dualbooted my tm8006 with fedora core3 and that ran the fan continuously at full revs and the fan in the TM is s**t!! noisy as hell... it buzzes in a high pitched kinda way and there was no way i was gonna put up with that for the next 5 years lol. the pb15" al i had... its like.. running on ac mains at cpu intensive tasks and if ithad a fan i never heard it at all... it was a delight...

the only peev i have regrding apple powerbooks is the display... they are freakin disgusting. have you ever seen the way it is unevenly lit on all of the ibook ranges and the 12" and also the light leakage on the 17"???? and the 15" had a bizzare anomaly which i outlined above... so take a look at the apple discussion forums on apples official support/discussions pages in the display section LOL... tomorrow i will go see the new powerbooks at the applecentre store and ask a whole ton of qns regarding the displays etc... and then if i have their written guarantee of support should these strange screen issues arise then they will instantly repair it without qn and if the repair dont work then i wil return for a full refund.

every laptop owner needs to full research their product before buying ahd then see it in person and then ask qns and get guarantee of support from the reseller... because all lapops f**k up in a big way in some way or another lol... i have never had a laptop that didnt have a fault out of the box so maybe i am paranoid lol...

oh well...

take care and hope to keep hearing from you guys..

huh, i've read a bit at the apple forums about screen issues. i got my 1.2Ghz iBook w/no dead pixels. one of the issues that some have commented on are the 2 lower corners being a little brighter than the rest of the screen, and it's ever so subtle as it is for me at least. the only time i notice it is during load up w/ the solid grey background and during shutdown w/ the blue background. i reset the pram and nvram which seems to have helped a bit, so now even when playing DVDs i can hardly tell unless i have the screen angled just right when i'm trying to look for it. even so this is not uncommon for all LCDs. i've seen the same corner issues on Acers, Dells, etc., even on desktop LCDs. other than that the lighting is even as can be and i like the display, even tho i wouldn't spit at an uber-bright one w/ 5+ hrs of battery life to go w/ it.

btw, my old p3 600mhz Compaq was flawless from day one. the only thing that ever went wrong w/ it was when I monkeyed up the pins on the PC card slot after 3yrs of solid laptop servitude. i replaced the motherboard, and it's still up and running.
