700m - At what point is it in its life cycle?

Im pulling the trigger and getting a 700m. But my biggest fear in buying notebooks is that once it gets delivered then a newer/better system is announced.

So does anyone know if the 700m is at the end of its life cycle or somewhere near the middle? If its only a 1month wait for a sonoma 700m then i'll hold off. But if its 6months away then i'll just buy now.

It is pretty new. Released just a few months ago as Dell's ultraportable. It won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

its only integrated extreme graphics but it looks really sexy! smaller than the 600m

Make sure you realize the battery life of the 700m, and the weight (despite it's small form factor). It's a nice little machine, but I wouldn't buy one without the extended battery.

The X1 is set to be released this summer isnt it?

I was going through the same delay rationale but finally got a 700m a week ago. A bit like buying a new car in the summer, the current model isn't bad if the price is right. I like the faster cpu on the 700m rather than waiting for an X1 with a slower (1.2?) cpu.

Two hours is about the limit for the smaller 4 cell's usefulness. Otherwise it is great laptop and I am glad I returned the X300 I first tried.

Really it will take that long? It seem all the other models are already being replaced with the new sonoma chips ... 700m has been around for more than a "few" month right? I think we should see one within like 2 month?

Its really tempting enspecailly with all these deals recently, like the one currently thatis 35% off, i can got a 1.8ghz for around 1000 shipped!

It will be more than 1 month, but it will DEFINETLY be less than 6 month! And we probably won't see discounts like those that are currently running...

well i ordered mine. i have alot of worries though including my initial concern that this has been out long enough that they may release a sonoma update which would include an upgraeable PCIx video card. (boy that would kill me...). But also im concerned about a few other things now that ive seen it at the dell store.

1) Keyboard - its small but ive had a small averatec and a small vaio before so i can get used to it. i tried typing and everything was okay except the period and comma keys. what were they thinking? plus, i had an ibook for 2 weeks and thats just as wide but it has a fullsize keyboard. the 700m couldve had a fullsize keyboard too if they utilized the sides instead of leaving that 1" margin.

2) screen -
maybe you guys can help me out on this because the dell demo was locked so i couldnt look at display properties. maybe they had it set up wrong?

i have perfect vision, but in trying to read the names of some files on the desktop looked tiny. i had a hard time reading some letters. plus, the icons looked a bit stretched. like the internet explorer icon wasnt a perfect circle. it was more of a slightly squashed circle.

Anyway, i got the dvd burner, 60gb hdd and extended battery so i should be okay if i can just get used to the keyboard and not notice when dell releases the 700m successor.

The Dell 700m is based on the Aopen 1551 chassis, and the 1551 has been out almost a year now.
