Don't underestimate the CPU's role in gaming. It's a lot bigger than many of you choose to think.
I do understand what you're saying here, but it's just kind of hard to believe that the CPU would contribute THAT much to games, even at low rez...in the graph you cite, going from e.g. Intel 550 3.6 to Dothan 2.0 using the SAME graphics board results in ~10FPS increase...in the oft-cited Tom's Hardware Doom3 graph, roughly the same jump in processor type (3.8 to XPS2 2.13-M) paired with the jump from 6800 Go to 6800 Ultra results in ~40FPS increase...?
So there is obviously some interaction between the two, but I think it is clear that there is a large jump from the Ultra-ness of the Ultra...nonetheless, whether this is significant to you as an individual or not is always debatable...
