Internal Wireless Problems/Help

Hey, I just got an internal wireless card yesterday, installed it, hooked up the antennas and fired up the laptop...Area-51M 766

Im only getting 1 to 2 bars unless the laptop is RIGHT above the router/access point. I cant even go downstairs, I loose my connectivity....

I have an external card that gets full bar even outside of the house....

I was wondering if the antenna in these things are just crap, or if I got some kind of defective card...

Any help would be good. Thanks

Some time ago, way back when the 766 came out I remember this being a huge problem. I also remember that one of the best solution was to remove one of the two antenna wires. Only I can't remeber which one!?! Try searching the tech forum for it.

This goes in the Tech Support forums >:-\

Try removing the "aux" antenna lead. <-- this was a suggested fix on the company AW support site.

which color is the aux? Black or grey? the card doesnt say which is which on it

The aux wire is black, and should be taped off. The grey wire should be attached to the "main" antenna connector on the card.

You may also want to check out Alienware knowledge base answer #618 (can't post URL because it looks session specific.) You don't need to be logged in to search the knowledge base - just search for "618".
