PROBLEM! Sager NP3760 refuses to turn on

I've got a MAJOR problem with any Sager NP3760 - it refuses to turn on when I press the power button.

I started it by pressing the button with the AC adapter plugged in, watched while it loaded the OS (I use Debian Linux 2.6.10) and when it reached the login screen, it unexpectedly turned itself off! No amount of keyboard bashing, button pressing or battery checking has managed to bring it back to life. Unplugging and replugging the AC adapter doesn't seem to have any effect either.

Up to now my laptop has worked flawlessly with no major issues or problems whatsoever. Why would it suddenly turn itself off?

Has anybody ever experienced anything like this before? Am I screwed?

Maybe it's mad at you. wash its ports out with soap!
no seriously it sounds like a PSU failure but im sure you figured that out already
possibly a motherboard problem as well

A PSU failure had crossed my mind; while I don't go out of my way to run my laptop into the ground, I do tend to intensively use it for periods above 3 or 4 hours, leading to heat buildup.

The part which really scrambles my brains is that plugging/unplugging the AC adapter appears to work properly; when the adapter is unplugged for a time and then replugged, the LEDs light up to show that the battery is being recharged!

Anyone else have any ideas? I really don't want to remove the hard disk to save my files...

I had a 3790 for a few weeks before i traded it in for my 9860... I do remember that you had to hold the power button down for a good two seconds before it would power up. Seemed like it was a defect to me until my friend got his and it was the same way. I thing it is some sort of safety feature so it dosent turn on right away. Give it a shot, hold it down a couple of seconds and see if she comes up.

I've tried that, both with and without the battery inserted, and the thing remains deader than a doorstop.

don't delay

Don't delay, RMA now go,go,go

before its too late, have them look at it! It might be worth paying the 45 dollar fee plus shipping just to have your 1500 dollar computer working like its supposed to ---if you are past your warranty period or what have you.

My point is, the longer you wait the less options for repair you will have. I just get that painful sinking feeling that you now have a very impractical paper weight instead of a fine computer.
Its like someone telling you to bet your 2 grand on a throw of the dice...you lose and then making you pay...for nothing.

No sir, If I was in your shoes, I would be RMAing. And if you ARE in your warranty period or full refund/exchange period, consider getting another one or different one.

All that said, I really like my Sager. I don't wish your situation on anybody. Get past the denial and get a new one...if you can! My best regards and good luck!

I am going to RMA it, right now. I tried investigating repair at a service center but the costs were simply too high.
