Which Portable Mp3 Player

I was wondering is anyone has a recommednation for a good Mp3 player? im looking at a 200 price range.. I would like it rechargable. But i need at least 2 gigs of storeage.

My room mate is a pain in the ass. he likes to let his alarm go off repeatedly and just hits snooze. And he listens to his techno (Infected Mushroom) on his surround sound attached to his 51m (so hes not the brightest guy)

Hes actually pissed cause my m60 scored 29xx in 3dmark03 and he only scored 987.... it was halarious.

Anyways TIA, also people with experience i would love to hear from you and recommendations, and features i should look out for.

I ask around my floor and everyone said the IPOD but i wasnt sure about some compatibility issues with XP Pro. What do you guys think.... (Bump)

I impulse purchased the 30Gb IPOD two weeks ago; I've never regretted it once. Yes it costs almost double/triple the other mp3 players but it was well worth it in my opinion. It's ridiculous how aesthetically pleasing it is. I use Windows XP Pro and haven't had any problems. I use the supplied MusicMatch Jukebox software to organize the mp3s and sync it up and it created a removeable drive letter so you can transfer files to it other than mp3 format. Plus the accessories for it kick butt. You can get it setup so you can listen to your IPOD music collection in your car if you want to lol

Personally I don't have a MP3 player at the moment (I'm a minidisc man myself) but you might wanna take a look at the Creative Nomad Zen.

It's not as thin as the iPod but it is ALOT cheaper then the iPod...plus you won't have to worry about if it will be compatible with ur Windows PC.

The alternate

Check out the iRivers at www.iriver.com . Those look pretty cool, and they are portable hard drives too. Aren't as fragile as hard drive based players. Besides, who stores all their MP3s only on their player....

Maybe people who don't wanna have upload only a fraction of their music and would rather have access to all of it at any given time?

NOMAD

Oh, btw, my bro has a Nomad. Its ok, nothing great that I can see. Its big and bulky in my opinion...but then again, I think the iPod is too big. The control is easy to use, the software is easy to use. Just don't plan on anything small if you stick it in a carry case. Its like with cell phones, they seem to double in size in their leather cases. Don't think it can carry non-musical data btw.

Small collections

Sure, if you want to upload your 6 billion songs go for it. Personally, I am a picky and finicky music fan. I have under 100 MP3s, which has grown and been chopped off over the years.

The iPod? Big? Have you seen the current batch of iPods? While I don't personally like the way the controls are, the suckers are pretty damn small.

I'm pretty picky too, but I have around 2,300 MP3's ranging from mainstream music, classical, video game soundtracks, movie soundtracks, anime soundtracks and comedians.

lol

Its all relative. I am just annoying and hard to please. If you want to lug around an iPod and think its perfect, feel free. But I want something that fits in my hand. IN the hand, not held by it.

Minidisc player/recorders with NetMD fit that description...and you can fit 5 hours of music on one 80 minute disk. Plus even at that type of compression, the audio still sounds pretty good. The units (Sony makes the best imo) cost around $130-150 for a basic minidisc player/recorder and the disks only cost $20 for 10 of them. It only takes 15 minutes to copy the 5 hours worth of music to the disc too.

MD

Was going to suggest that, but it's not as mainstream as it should have been. Alot of people don't like the idea of having to make discs for a player. However, I like them, but storing those MD cases gets to be a hassel, even though they are like Game Boy Games (which also happen to get lost all the time).

It seems like MD have taken off everywhere else but in the US...wierd...but since they are so durrable, you can have 2 or 3 extra discs in ur pocket and don't have to worry about them breaking.

...at least minidisc discs aren't as expensive as GBA games...hehe...

MD

Too bad they don't store data. For the guy who started the post, I guess it boils down to this. For mass storage, look at the Zen or iPod. If you like small and are willing to update your collection, get a flash player, like the MuVo or iRiver. For something that few people have and that you can show off with as being a tech-nerd, go with MD. MD is great for DJing too, if you are into that at all.

If it was a choice between the MuVo (which is pretty slick btw) and similar type players or Minidisc...I'd choose Minidisc.

Yeah well i got about 9 gigs of music and its all the stuff i like (my ripped cds) so anything less than a gig is unrealitsitc. THanks for the help! Now i just have to decide on what size. Minidiscs would have been cool but not enough space

Yeah and the other reason is that my car audio is stup for an auxilary input, which just screams for an mp3 player

Correct me if i am WRONG !!!

NetMD MiniDisk at first sound great for me, 5 hrs of music....but when i saw specs, I could see it do not store data like a HD, and when you use this "5 hrs" you have to transfer it on LP4 (or somthing like this) and you can NOT transfer back to any comuter than yours (like this **** of WMA with digital firm).

I wish someone would make a codec that allows for the IPOD to play .wma
