I chose Avant! 'cuz I hope you meant Avast!. Its home registration is free, also. AND you can turn off any protection providers you don't use, freeing up a little of the system resources. Works great for me.

No EZ Antivirus by CA?

BOOOOO!!!!

I chose Avast, which I think you listed as Avant!. It isn't a resource hog that NAV was for me and it's free registration.

What?! No FDisk and Reinstall OS?! I protest!

I use Anti-Vir, used to use AVG till some got through. Anti-Vir has a guard that alerts when a virus is attempting intrusion and asks you what to do with the file. AVG didn't do that for me. I liked AVG though, better looking than Anti-Vir.

I hate anything that eats system resources like Norton IS....

I've never had resource problems with Norton Antivirus. I had a friend with AVG and it detected some virus but did nothing about it and it trashed his system.

I prefer Avast. I tried AVG for a while and it just didn't suit me...I dunno why...it just didn't. Norton and McAffee are pure crap...and Norton screws up more systems than it helps IMHO. Symantec can make decent antivirus programs though, just their corporate products. I've heard good things about NOD32, I just never got around to using it.

Norton's a system PIG and McAfee always seemed to conflict with other programs (albeit, that was years ago). AVG's kept me relatively clean for quite a few years and seemed very light on the system. Latest version (7.0 or whatever it is) seems to be a bit more resource-intensive than the previous generations, however.

OS X panther.

I voted Norton, but my real preference isn't listed. Avast is free and appears to work just as well as Norton. AVG, on the other hand, will completely let some virii buried in archives slide undetected, and will do nothing to clean others. If true protection is your concern do NOT use AVG. If you swear by it, I still have one of the infected archives that AVG will let slide. Norton and Avast both pick it up and and clean it.

If your preference was Avast, I think that's what was meant by "Avant!" in the poll.
