Maybe they'll give you a path to an X800 for $400 just to satisfy the "upgradable" talk. But chances are that Intel will crank the FSB up to 800MHz, and then to 1066MHz, and there'll be a new kind of RAM, and a brighter LCD, or something else that just didn't fit on the upgrade path.

But that's just the way it's been since computers were invented. Maybe this time will be different.
I think with the release of MXM/Axiom things will be different this time around. We will see what happens...

DELBERT THANK YOU YOU SAVED ME $500 BUCKS.

You told me last weekend about the 15% of refurb coupon. I cancelled my 9200 order, found a better suited one, applied the coupon and saved $400 AND when i cancelled, without asking, or complaining, for some reason Dell gave me a $100 coupon! Just bought a battery with it.

Enjoy your 9200. I'm sure you can think of a better way to blow $1000.
That's exactly what I am going to do. I didn't want to play the waiting game, so I went ahead and bought myself a 9200 in Nov. With the EPP - 25% - 6% - $200 deal, it costed me $1264.14 + tax.

When dell starts mass producing 9300 and I don't have to wait for 3 plus weeks for the laptop to be delivered, I will sell my 9200 (I believe I still can get $1000 from selling it) and pay the different and go for a 9300.

Waiting is painful, especially for a person who don't have a second computer like me. I did not want to wait so I bought a 9200, and I did not have to live without a laptop for three plus months or don't have to pray and hope Dell doesn't screw up the first batch or delay the shipping or something.

You people are like a buncha product press release junkies with ADD!
"OMG! This is soooo kewl! Wait, look at this one! It's so kewler! And look at the graphics car- Oooooooooh, a neeeeew one! Oh goody-goody. If I just wait three more months, and collect enough Sugar Krispies box tops, I'll be able to get the blue Spiderman wrist web-shooter w/ P-M 2.3 (instead of the 2.1), 512MB Orgasmitron Graphics Spugilator card w/Ultra-Reel Teknologee and the 36 inch "Uber-Tite Ultra-Brite" WUXGA screen! It'll be sooooo much better than the 256MB Sexalator Grafix that's out now!"

Get a grip! You're all like a buch of "Silicone Valley Girls" - "Like fer sher- That's so yesterday." You don't think Dell & the like don't already have things that are three times better than the 9300 ready to rock n' roll right off the line? They're metering out the technology so we'll all bite on it like baby birds holding our mouths open.
I'm not saying you shouldn't get something new, I'm saying get what you want or need and be happy. If it floats your boat to wait for the next new thing, then fine.
But leave other people alone!

The author of this thread has only stated what many of us with old the outdated antique 9200s are already thinking- That discussion topic is suddenly, and will remain, dominated by the newest of the new, the 9300. -Till something newer comes out next week.
Meanwhile, at the break-next speed at which these new models are introduced, many of us never get to fully take advantage of a forum like this when the "Worthy of discussion" lifespan of our new notebooks is so short.

Seems if I want to ask questions here about my Dothan processor in my 9200, I have to lie and say I have whatever the latest model is that has that processor.

-Unless, of course, they don't even make that old shyt anymore.

Thread Starter
well i got this for 1800. I dont think i can get a decent 9300 around that price and no way im gonna sell this 9200 for 1500 or more.

I will just keep my money and i'll come back to the market 5 years later.

See you guys then.

I bought my refurbished i9200 about a month ago for $789 out the door. That was when there was free shipping, nice discounts on refurbs, and a stackable 15% off coupon. It was a base model, with a 8XDVD-ROM drive and only 256MB of ram, but did have the Intel 2200 wireless. After upgrading the third party ram to a gig for $130, and buying the NEC ND-6500A double-layer CD/DVD burner from newegg for another $130, I have a fully loaded i9200 that's perfect for me, with the total cost being only a tad over $1000.

There's no way I feel threatened by the i9300, and I'm completely happy with this machine. Sometimes one has to stop gawking over specs, and actually use the machine. I'm doing so, and my i9200 is excellent. The release of a newer, more expensive toy is in no way going to make me appreciate this any less.

My story is a bit different from you guys. In January, I bought 9200 with WUXGA. Naturally it had a problematic LCD. Then I received another 9200 form Dell. I had two 9200 with me for 21 days before I sent them back to Dell and got a full refund. Then I booked 9300 and after seeing the XPS2, I have decided to go for it and subsequently cancelled the 9300's order. That's final.

Now anxiously waiting for XPS2 to launch in UK otherwise I am goanna get it from US.

I think what bothers me the most, is that I just spec'd out a 9300 as close to my 9200 as I could, and the newer laptop came out $500 LESS.

Now I know that I could have saved more when my current laptop was bought, but then I didn't know about this forum, and the Dell coupons.

By the way, when was the 9200 released? I checked the BIOS date as 10/08/04, so I imagine that's when it was released but...

The 9200 definitely had a short run. From November 2004 to March 2005.

9200 had a very short run compare to 9100

quit your whining.... everyone gets to that point sooner or later

Well ... I finally recieved the 9200. And all I can say is: WOW Even if there is something better now. Compared to the WXGA i6000 the WXGA+ on the 9200 is crisp and bright. This thing moves. The keyboard is solid ... I am very suprised at how good the sound is ... great volume and bass. Put a movie in (Ray) and it looks beautiful. This is a wonderful machine ... maybe my expectations arn't as high as some, but, at this point I have nothing to say but good things. Just tried some battlefield 1942 and it's clear and bright. All my apps just fly.

I think Dell, with this one and the 9300 and upward, has really hit the sweet spot in laptop design.

So True!
If you wait long enough...Say 10 years the laptops they make then are really going to smoke the laptops of today
Point being is..There is always something new and better around the corner.
I'm just glad I can enjoy my 9200 now

Not to be politically correct but both machines offer a good deal. Now is as good a time as any to jump on a 9200 on the outlet if you can get one with the WXGA screen. Some great deals to be had either way... I personally am jumping on the 9300 but that is me. If they would have made a friggin reasonable WUXGA screen for the 9200 I would have joined the 9200 club, but they refused to make it right so I guess I am stuck with a 9300 with a 256 MB GeForce to go card... Poor me
