Which is more Powerful (gaming)...iXPS or iXPS2???

Thread Starter
I have a iXPS with 3.4 P4, 1GB DDR, ATI Radeon Mobility 9800, 60HD.

Is the new iXPS2 with 2.13 Pentium mobile, 1GB DDR2, and nvidia 6800go ULTRA MORE powerful that what I got?

How can a Pentium M at only 2.13 stack up against a Desktop class P4 at 3.4 GHZ? I am also considering Processor power because I use alot of Emulators (MAME, ect).

I assume that the Nvidia 6800go Ultra is more powerful than a ATI 9800 mobility, right? Does that Nvidia 6800go use DDR1 or GDDR3?????

I would think that if it used GDDR3, it will definitely be faster than the ATI 9800 mobility. but Dell doesn't say which module is being used, the DDR1 or the DDR3 memory.

I am a big HALO PC, DOOM, NFSU, HL2, ect gamer. I need the fastest laptop rig because of LAN parties.

Anyone with advise? Thanks.

yes.....

The 6800go Ultra is much better than the 9800

What about the processor??? A pentium M VS a pentium 4 at 3.4....no way! Most emulators (MAME) work off of the CPU speed. The Pentium M at only 2.13 would be killed by a Pentium 4 at 3.4...wouldn't it?

Thanks.

Here's a 21-page review testing Intel's Pentium M...

Faster, lighter, cooler (from a temperature and style standpoint). XPS Gen 1 is a sweet machine, though.

Can you say,"ZOOOOOOOOOM!"?

Airwolf,
The two CPUs are comparable: in some benchmarks the p4 will perform slightly better, in others slightly worse than the pM.

Is that in terms of Gaming? That is all I care about. So, for Gaming...(but mainly Emulation) who wins? The P4 or the Pmobile? Thanks.

Um, XPS2 kills EVERYTHING, including a decked out Sager 9860 (it's only real competition), I don't care if you have a P4 PM or a desktop, you can't beat an XPS2 (ok, not with $3,000 at least)

Check it out

gaming, p4 is slightly better. depends on clock speeds. pm 2.0 would be good as p4 3.2.
but if u r talking about xps2, see the reviews, it beats out all desktop cards based on p4 systems save the ultra.
the graphics card really kicks in at higher settings. at lower resolutions the load is more or less evenly distributed with the cpu.

For MAME my pentium 4 3.0 Ghz is better than my Pentium M 1.6 GHz. Using Mame32FXpp the Pentium M 1.6 GHz runs all of the games tested fine. The game I tested with was Batman since it was running slow on Mame32, then I found the Mame32FXpp. I have 1 GB RAM in both systems. Laptop is Inspiron 9200, desktop is Dimension 8400 with x300 video. Mame is not your typical game.

XPS2 is better. From what I've seen this is mostly due to the number of "pipes" with which the video card and the CPU comunicate.

The XPS2 12(?) and the XPS has 6 or 8. This makes a big differance. There has been some poeple on this site trying t open more pipes on the XPS with the ATI 9800.

I have an XPS with ATI 9700 which I'm happy with. If I could justify it I would get the XPS2!

there´s a $1000 off coupon on a ixps1 with a p4EE at about $2200 after discount. Just wondering, any of you out here would get this instead of the ixps2?

The 2.13 is faster than the 3.4 because if you multiply the 2.13 by 1.6 (how you convert the processor to a destop tan you get 3.408GHz, just because the clock speed is low doesnt mean it is less powerfull, jsut take the AMX Atholon 64 FX processors, they have clock speeds of about 2-2.6 ( about) and most of them are more powerfull ( In games) than the P4EE.

again it depends on the application.

For gaming purposes, the reason why the XPS2 is so good is the video card not the processor.

Not in a million years. Not only is the XPS2 faster, but it's lighter and has a longer battery.

of course xps2 mate

clock speed is not the eveything
