It's a table one column each for XPS2 and old XPS.
post #4 of 22
So 15/03 for all of us ?!!
post #5 of 22
It says something about Dothan ..... neither I XPS's have Dothan CPU's right?
post #6 of 22
xps2's use the dothan
post #7 of 22
Where did you get this?

Can we expect the xps2 to be shipped sooner then???
post #8 of 22
Get the one for the 9300. I want to see if it has gigabit.

Unfortunately, if they don't have the video cards to put in them, the RTS date means nothing.

BTW, what does RTS stand for? Release something?

Yo, and check this:
Quote:
NOTE: There are two versions of the GeForce Go 6800 graphics card. Sullivan (GeForce Go 6800) has a lower AISC and Memory speed then Folsom's (GeForce Go 6800 Ultra). These two cards are not swappable between the two systems.
This sounds like some significant information regarding the difference between the 6800's and also whether either card can be used in either notebook. It doesn't say what "the two systems" are, but the have to mean the 9300 and the iXPS2, right? And what is AISC? And are "Folsom" and "Sullivan" nicknames for the iXPS2 and 9300, respectively?

Yeah:

The LCD is a FRU component on the Inspiron XPS Gen2 system due to logistics costs. The XPS Gen2 has a 17" LCD with one resolution option:
WUXGA - 1920x1200 TrueLife
The LCD on this system has a "shiny" (aka. TrueLife) finish like the previous 700M - Molokai. This is by design, the shiny finish gives a clearer, crisper display especially when viewing DVD movies.
This document is a really cool find, props to Ami111 for obtaining and posting it. But why do they call it "shiny" instead of shiny? That leads me to believe it's not really shiny but only kind of shiny.

Is this referring to the 9300 vs xps2 GPU?

edit: posted at same time lol

Just some more info about the LCD:

Quote:
LCD Cleaning Kit
Because the LCD on the XPS Gen2 has a shiny surface, a cleaning kit will be included in the box for the customer 100% of the time. The customer should use this cleaning solution when cleaning the LCD so that the screen finish is not damaged. Additional cleaning solution can be purchased from Klear Screen.

Hopefully, it means Release To Shipping, and that's when the systems will go out the door to us!

Hmm, where have we heard that before? Oh yeah, from me

Folsom = XPS2
Gilbert = 9200
Sulivan = 9300

AISC is a mispelling of ASIC = Application Specific IC = the 6800 core. The 9300's 6800 will have a slower-clocked core.
post #12 of 22
nice!

ami111 you are the light at the end of the dark tunnel =)
finally xps2 gets to europe!!!!
can't wait to have this thing in my hands!!!!!! damn, i want one, now!!!!

btw who are folsom, gilbert and sullivan?? dells employees of the month or are these town names?? =)

Folsom is a city in California famous for it's prison. XPS2 owners are obviously bad-ass ex-cons, for the most part.

Gilbert and Sulivan wrote show tunes. Dell's internal names reveal that the 9200/9300 were planned from the beginning as a two-part act. The 9200 was merely a stop-gap until Intel released Sonoma. I still like my stop-gap though

Just to follow up with useless trivia:
XPS1 was project Alcatraz. Its a prison island located in California's San Francisco Bay and was a home of some of the worst mob criminals back in the 1950s and 1960s prisons. Many movies have been made about it.

For XPS2 dell kept the prison name theme going and chose another corrections facility located in California, Folsom State Prison.

So now you know....
I would expect the XPS3 possibly named San Quentin after San Quentin State Prison. This is the new home of Scott Petterson.

Sooo.... does this mean XPS customers need to be locked up?
