Sorry, I dunno why I was thinking the 9300 had the P4, guess I should spend more time reviews Dell than being up all night putting new options and models on our own site .

Up to 5 hrs? Is that if you buy the upgraded battery, the 1.6GHZ CPU, and the X300 GPU and run with 1 basic program? I believe that's how most companies rate their battery life is with the least demanding options. I like to run a DVD full screen at a volume that I can hear well and time it until it shuts off for my battery life tests. That way it's 100% even playing ground for best comparisons and a decent load for what a lot of people do when on battery. I may have to order one to put them side by side. The 4880 is supposed to really do well with the battery and I won't give it any breaks in the review.

The posted specs were direct from Sager as an announcement. I see they have it listed under the category Standard Options which I agree sounds like they would release it with the Bluetooth included standard. The actual official options and pricing from Sager to the resellers does not have it standard and that's what we are required to go from. We'll have to ask them Monday when they're in if it was something they changed their mind about between the specs page release and pricing or if it was a type error on the specs page release.

5.2 hours is what they state for the optional 9 cell battery. The standard 6 cell battery is listed at 3.4 hours. And, I just checked, here's what it says "Battery life is based on the MobileMark 2002 benchmark test performed by Dell Labs in October 2004 on the Inspiron 9200 with 1.8GHz Pentium M processor, 1GB DDR 333MHz RAM, 80GB HDD, Win XP Home SP2, 17" WUXGA LCD, and 53WHr or 80WHr battery." Isn't even the same machine...lol. That said, I would imagine that the battery life will still be very good and a lot closer to the 4480 than it will be to the 9860.

It hasn't officially replaced it. I would imagine market demand will decide that. If there's a UXGA option for it (which also was in the original planned specs), it may very well kill 3790 sales, but there's a lot to still see. I can't form an opinion on it until I get a chance to beat on and test a final version production 4480.

johare, I touched a bit with all I know on the Bluetooth issue above if you missed it.

Release a UXGA version of this, and I'll be first in line. That's the only thing stopping me from placing an order.

I was thinking of getting this or the following models:
Toshiba Tecra S2 (sonoma, nVidia 6600go 128mb)

Gateway m460XL (sonoma, ATI x600 128mb)

They both cost about the same (under $1600)

You think I should wait or are the two models up top any good compared to this?

I configured both the 4480 and the S2 and I get a much more expansive Toshiba for the same specs , lesser VPU and RAM.

How did you configure yours ?
I put it to come with 256mb ram because toshiba charges 280+ for 1 gig ram upgrade. I can get a gig off newegg for 170$.

What version Bluetooth is this Sager? Also is the screen glossy?

Maybe I misread, but wasn't one if the main features of the Sonoma technology the 533mhz bus? If so, why is the 4480 using 333mhz memory instead of 533?

Display resolution

Does the display have a resolution of 1400x1050 (SXGA+) or 1280x1024 (SXGA)?. Because in the PC Torque shop they say 15" SXGA+ (1280x1024) LCD... http://pctorque.com/builder.php?type=84

It's a bit confusing?!

That was a typo, it is corrected now.

I'm sorry but I couldn't find an answer to the question if there will be an UXGA version and if and then when there will be a NVidia 6600 Go option?
aw, crap. my 30 days on my 3790 just ran out a little over a week ago. now we have this. oh well, chances are the differences between the two won't be phenomenal. the 3790 still has a good life ahead of it.

Adam Please Answer This Question

Adam, could you please answer these questions? Is this basically a waste of Sonoma technology, only supporting single channel DDR 333? If so, I can't see how it'd be competitive with the Acer Travelmate 8100 at the same (or heavier) weight with less screen, almost similar pricing, and undoubtedly less performance since it wouldn't even really be Sonoma.

The new graphic cards are supposed to have roughly twice the performance ... but that computer will still be better than 90% of the computers random consumers buy!
