Heh...2gb RAM? Outof curiosity, do you actually NEED that much, or got it "just because"? I'm at 512mb (2 x 256mb) PC2700 now, which appears to be more than sufficient for my needs. Unless a really HOT deal comes along on 512mb PC2700 SoDimm chips, I doubt I'll upgrade to any more RAM.

i got 2gb, just b/c i had two slots and what the hell...i don't need it, but who needs anything really...personally 512mb is minimum i'd say to run win xp...and since integrated graphics uses 64mb, i'd be getting a 512mb stick adn keeping one of the 256mb sticks

spending $350 for 2GB for myself so i could say sorry wife, we can't afford the $900 on a purse for the wife was a way of saving $550 rather than spending $350 if you get my drift

ok, now someone needs to explain what all this numbers crap really means in real life performance...yeah, higher number is better...ok, so what

The test wasn't so much to test 3d, but everything. 3dmark05 tests 3d, this tests a bunch of other stuff too.

On my desktop (P4@3.4/1GB in sig): 5213
My 9200 (2.0/1GB/60GB in sig): 3910
My 9200 on battery power: 3810
On my wife's 9200 (1.8/512/100GB): 3616
On the same 9200 on battery power: 2907

On battery I used the max performance profile and I disabled ATI's PowerPlay. I was expecting the scores to be similar under AC and battery. Anybody know why they differ by so much?

cpu speed
Not even that. It measure's your performance in "real world" tests. Bascially its another synthetic benchmark.

These results are pretty variable... I wonder how much background processes eat into your score (Firewall etc), they don't really in 3d Mark because its so GPU driven but they might well in this because I think its stressing the memory and cpu far more than anything else.

On performance under battery - Just change the speedswitch XP setting to Dynamic Switching - that should make it the same right (or does it downclock the memory or something dodgy)
if on dynamic, speedswitch is supposed to allow the processor to max out when it needs to...so if the test is doing that, there shouldn't be a difference

With my XPS, and just the freeware version of PCmark04. For such a trivial benchmark series, they are definatlely not worth money, they aren't even worth looking for keys for.

Was going to attach a photo capture but can't find the damn attach photo button, whatever. Scored 4351.

What about the memory - I think thats gotta be it....

cpu speed
If that were the case, I wonder how Snesley Wipes' 8600 with a 2.0GHz CPU + 1GB PC2700 could score 4319, as opposed to my M70 with a 2.13GHz CPU + 2GB PC4200 scoring 4238.
I just ran the test on my 9200 (in sig), and got 3910 on AC and 3810 on battery (using SpeedswitchXP). I would have expected mine to score a little higher than Snesley Wipes' 8600, since we have the same CPU, same RAM, same disk, same rez LCD, and I have a slightly faster GPU.

My computer is extremely optimized. The only programs running in my systray are Speedstep and I8KGUI. I also use Omega drivers and unfortunately, defrag, regmechanic, spybot, adaware, and Norton optimize at least once a day. I have severe OCD! I also have the heat mod in effect for my vid card so my max temp only reaches 64C, same mod for processor with AS5. Im not to savy at posting pics, but I assure you these are legit scores. I have no reason to lie to people I don't even know.

In paint. Open the edit button, and click "Paste". You can drag the picture then resize it by clicking the outer edge of the screen.

Now open the file button, and click "Save as".

In save as. Name your picture, and "save as type" JPEG.

Go to http://www.photobucket.com/ and register, it's free.
Upload your picture there, and richt click and save the link of your uploaded picture.

Come here, to notebookforums, and richt click and past your link, to the message pad. Type "" in the back of the link, no quotation marks.

Press submit reply, and show us your picture of your test results. Please.

Hmm... Dellbert, did you kill your A/v for the test? WHen I ran mine, I CTRL-ALT-DEL everything (A/V, sql server, some background schedulers for raxco perfectdisk, etc.) and gained a significant margin. I think A/V would really affect this test.

Ok hope I did this correctly...the first pic is my 2nd run highest score of 4319 saved to excel via the PCMark program. I did not screen capture it because I just now learned how to insert pics into this forum thanks to dlinkin. My very first score was 4192 but not saved. Today ran again and attained a score of 3965. The only thing done to my computer between the first two scores and the last one is I had to repair my "boot.ini" file. This involved inserting my Windows disk and you know the rest. I wonder if this influenced the variation in points? If it did, I hope to have another problem with that ini file! Here is your pic dlinkin and thanks again for the pic tutorial!
