more XPS 2 Questions... about upgrading

Thread Starter
Im not sure if I read on here about the XPS 2 being able to handle future upgrades. I was wondering about processor and video card being able to be upgraded to faster CPU's and GPU's? I looked on dells site and didnt really see anything about the xps 2 with future upgrading capability. Any rumors about intel with mobile 64 bit CPU's?

Thanks again!!

According to Dell's training manual (training for their phone tech reps I guess), the GPU is upgradeable. The CPU is probably upgradeable too. See for yourself.

That's thanks to mikebuzz.

Not likely to support 64bit mobile cpu's. That's Intel's favor to the consumer, to change the pin configuration and other electronics to require you to buy a whole new motherboard (system, if it's a notebook) to upgrade to the newer chips.

I would think you could upgrade to fater Pentium M's though. I think they're going up to 2.4 later in the year. Who knows about the video card?

i'd also like to know if anyone knows of a timeframe for intel to release 64 bit P-Ms... i'm skipping the iXPS2 even though is looks soo damn cool compared to my i9100 and is way fast, but my next purchase is going to be next gen tech (64 bit, next gen cardbus, next gen vid card cores, etc...)

You must've missed something. Everything is ALWAYS next gen. The future was yesterday.

i don't believe you are correct, EVERYTHING ISN'T nex gen because not all new computer parts are fundamentally different... for example, not just differences in MHZ, but structure.. like the difference between a Intel northwood and an Intel Prescott... get my meaning of next gen (64bit, an updated cardbus version, different core gfx card)

You really won't be able to expect Yonah (intel's dual core p-m) until about Q1 2006. And oh yeah, there's a mighty secksy chance that Dell is going to release a better graphics card in the near future, before they phase out the iXPS2. I'd think something like a next-gen (read: ATI R5xx/Nvidia NV47/8/5x)
