Well I thought I would let anyone considering purchasing an alienware 7700 in on my experience thus far with the company. It has been over 3 months now with nothing to show for the 3500+ I layed down for a new laptop. I made the purchase in december knowing full well that it was a pre-order and would not be receiving it untill mid January. Well it came late January after delays (this would be a common thread throughout my experience) and arrived to my great dissapointment. Right out of the box I noticed a crack in the touch pad, this was a bit dissapointing but I was riding the high of getting my new laptop. Now the second thing I noticed was that my microphone did not work on the computer when I tried to call a friend on skype to tell him about my new 'badass' machine... no big deal I don't really use my computer to talk much anyway. Ok, so now for the real reason I bought the 7700, gaming. I fired up doom three and played for about 30 minutes before the entire system lost power. I rebooted, played for another 10 minutes thinking it was just a fluke but then I lost power again. After working with Alienware they were to send me a new fan for the graphics card as they believed this was causing my computer to over heat and shut down. I asked how long a new fan being shipped would be and was told 3-5 days. Well 3 weeeks later I recieved the fan.... which didn't work. Awesome. So now they need me to send the comp back to them... at this point I'm super bumped. But hey, I know parts fail and on the plus side they can fix my touch pad and mic. Well one week turned into two and then three and the last time I talked to alienware they said they didn't have any motherboards (which I guess was the problem) and they don't know when they'll be getting any. Awesome!
So at this point I'm pretty bummed, and after talking to some co-workers they convince me that it's proabably a good idea to just get my money back.... this is where it get's really awesome!!! Sorry sir your computer is way past it's 30 day return date. Ok, so you're telling me that b/c you sent me a defective product and then made me sit on it while you sent me a part that didn't fix the problem, and then had me send it back to you and wait some more... that's my problem and should have returned it earlier. Oh and not to mention if I could have returned it, there would be a 15% retocking fee, Awesome!
So now I still don't have a computer, I've borrowed one from a friend to use for work. How funny is that, I'm a computer programmer.. working with computers for a living and I'm borrowing one. So what do I do now? I'm so choked about the whole thing that I'm ready to dispute the charges on my credit card and go buy a sager or dell or anything!
Anyway, maybe this sounds like a big flame but I think you guys can appreciate how hard it is to be patient waiting for your alien to come.... and then to be dissapointed royaly....
