New Headphones : Sony Mdr-sa5000 Wow!!

Sony MDR-SA5000

Price : $500.00 in Japan and $750.00 in USA via www.audiocubes.com

These are my current favorites. Awesome sounding headphones with plenty of bass and unbelievable resolution. I find myself listening at lower levels than I would have imagined possible...fantastic musical experience.

There are two other versions - SA1000 and SA3000 for those on a budget.

For those with no budget cap - there is a Sony Qualia 010 headset for around $2500.00

STUNNING!!

The two amplifiers you see there...

The one on top is $1750.00

The one below is $950.00

The CDP is $540.00 after mods

The signal cables I use are $340.00

The Power cables I use are $120.00

The power conditioner I use is $1430.00

Yeah...visit www.headfi.com and you'll see how nuts people can get.

Think $3000.00 for a pair of headphones...

hmm...actually I have heard headphones that used to sell for $17000.00

Fun shit

It is not entirely metal in my opinion. Look at my first post. Some people seem to differ with my observations but whatever...

Is it worth $599.00 (estimated US retail price) : YES but not for everyone...

These 72 ohm headphones need a good headphone amplifier to drive them. They get better and better as the rest of your setup improves...

I like the stand....

The stand is awesome...um...at least they gave me a stand for the price I paid for it (I got it for $670.00 actually)

These offer stunning sound for the discerning listener. If you have the $$$ and if you want a headphone to match your laptop or desktop - get the SA1000 or the SA3000 which are significantly cheaper.....or the Qualia 010 which is nearly $3000.00 LOL

NOTE: The price on these headphones has dropped CONSIDERABLY. The US Release has left me shocked...you can now buy these headphones for $400.00 thereabouts!!

If you are looking for true class sound and are willing to invest in a decent amplifier + headphone setup - start with these headphones!!

ecost and other online retailers carry them...just do a Froogle for SONY MDR-SA5000

Nice cans man, and for a decent price too. I wish I had some cash to burn on them and the equipment to power them properly, but those days are a few years away. Damn car payments.

Anything that says Sony on it has to be junk, right?

Is this the 3000 killer gs?

NO!

The $3000.00 is the SONY MDR-R10 and that is only the 4th best headphone in the world IMO

#1 = $14,000 Sennheiser Orpheus Electrostatic Headphone
#2 = $ 3,000 Sony Qualia 010 / $3,000 Sennheiser Baby Orpheus
#3 = $ 3,000 Stax Omega II
#4 = $ 3,000 Sony MDR-R10
#5 = from here onwards it gets more mixed...

I tried these babies on in the sony store and they felt so good I wanted to drop my MDR V700s and take this home with me. The 3000s are also good if your low on $$$

The SA1000 and SA3000 are pretty close. I have only heard the SA1000 and SA5000 but the SA1000 is at least 75% of the SA5000...and the SA3000 could be closer.

One of the biggest differences between SA1000 and SA5000 from a sonic point of view is the lack of midrange. The SA5000 is not a warm sounding headphone by any means...but compared to the SA1000 it sure sounds warm.

All of them are fun and comfortable - choose according to your budget.
