Major help required!!!! REALLY MAJOR!!!

Hi guys, I just received my 8890 and was attempting to install XP Pro on it.

I managed to get it to boot up using the CD and it was running fine and dandy till I got to the HDD partitioning part. I created 2 partitions (1 15GB and 1 45GB). When it started the actual partitioning, it FROZE UP! No HDD activity, no CD-ROM activity at all for about 5-10mins.

So I restarted the system and it told me to "Press any key to boot using CD". Did that and then it gave me my worst nightmare......it showed me a General Protection Fault!

Subsequently, any attempts at boot up would give me the exact same thing, a GPF.

I would really appreaciate any and help provided on this matter as I am already at my wits end.

Thanks!

How far does it get before it gives you the GPF?
You could try clearing the CMOS.
Not sure how to do it on the 8890 as I don't have mine yet.

Doesn't seem to get anywhere at all, once I hit a key, it runs for abit then the GPF screen appears

Ok, I have tried using a ME bootdisk and got to the DOS prompt. I attempted to format the drive and it gave me "invalid media type reading drive c". Tried FDISK and it gave me the same thing.

I think I have royally screwed up.....

Does anybody know what brand the 7200RPM 60GB HDD is?

I believe it's a hitachi drive. To clear the CMOS, hold the power button for 30 seconds. Check the manual for further assistence. Sounds like you may have a busted drive, or just a loose connection between drive motherboard...

You can try downloading s.omething call Killdisk sicne you seem to have some sort of connection. Google it its site will come up. boot up with that in your floppy and it will erase the partition fully. Hopefully you can boot up with that. Wipe both partitions..or partial partitions and install xp again. Thats the only advice i got for you
