You do not need a fancy videocard. - Page 2

"shared"?
I'm assuming this is the GPU utilizing either RAM or CPU resources?
Don't they all work this way in conjunction with each other now?

Yep, you don't need a fancy video card if you don't game.

But don't stop there!

You don't need more than a 300MHz, 64 meg ram. 3 gig HD, Windows 98 system if you only browse the net, check email, and play solitaire. (which is what the vast majority of non-work related PC's are used for).

I think those two areas should cover 75% - 90% of computer users out there. (gamers and browsers).

not all of them...you can still buy notebooks that have a dedicated video card, but you pay more for that...depends on your needs I guess

Aw, come on, all of those? That's practically every one.

Correct. As far as I know, every one of them (and certainly other current and recent Dell models I have forgetten) had a dedicated video card as a default or option.

I just checked, and I do indeed need a fancy video card.

I just confirmed that I actually need TWO fancy video cards in my desktop. Who would like to donate the money they didn't need to spend because they didn't need a fancy video card so that I may buy two 6800 Ultra OCs and an nForce 4 SLI?

I built a Shuttle XPC a couples of years back and decided to go for a cheap $70 Nvidia graphics card for a couple of reason: 1) I don't play games on it, 2) all high performance cards at the time needed a lot of cooling and thus came with a noisy fan. Since my goal was a non gaming quiet PC that I can use for coding and image processing, this $70 video card is more suitable than a high performance video card even if price is not an object.
