I have an IBM Thinkpad A31. I've been wondering what is Linux and where can I get it. Are there any tutorials that can help me setup Linux etc...?

we all know ati drivers are a pain in linux, in ubuntu, took me all of 5 minutes. its an amazing little distro. however, it does lack media, but there are plenty of how-tos on the ubuntu wiki page that tell you how to install all the codecs you'll ever need along with players like xmms (sort of like winamp), mplayer (like windows media player...for video), and upgrade totem (audio and video). you might also want to install realplayer10 (same as in windows) so that you can play .ram and quicktime files
