Outpost 1GB DDR is back!!.............or is it?? - Page 2

Well.... I just ordered one from outpost about an hour ago.
They only charged $9.00 for overnight, so I'll be able to play with it in my 6809 tomorrow!
$149.00 plus tax, and $9.00 overnight came to $172.00 even, can't beat that for next day !!!

Again, this forum ROCKS !

You mean you got Kingmax 1gb for 158$. Good luck with this mem and tell us how it performed. I heard some of m6805 owners had problem with this Kingmax brand memory.

question, doesnt the memory in the internal slot technically have to match the size of the memory in the external slot for the ddr to work at full speed?
Yes, you are correct.

Though I have no plans to get to the internal, I ordered DDR400 (PC3200), in case I want to pull the RAM for a future notebook.

Here is the link.

No. It is dual channel the requires the two sticks be the same size and preferebly the same part number in order to work properly. Socket 754 doesn't support dual channel anyway. Your memory will work at the DDR rate of the slowest chip installed. Size has no bearing on the DDR functionality.

Crud. See, I don't know what I am talking about.

Thanks Thunder

No biggie ... Mixing up the terms DDR and Dual Channel is relatively common.

Figures this deal would come back after I gave up and bought a 512mb stick from Comp USA for $70

So does anybody know if:
1. Outpost charges Tax?
2. Will I see that much of a difference in my 6805 going from 768mb to 1.2gb of ram? (I did notice a little improvement going from 512 to 768).

They charge taxes in certain states, for example, in Illinois, where I live, they charged slightly over 9.00 USD.

If you didn't see improvement form 512 to 768, then it's hard to imagine that it will see improvement going over 1 GB. But do not only consider what you are running right now, think about what kind of programs you might like to run a year from now, and you will have a better idea what memory capacity you will need for your computer.

I am Bummed!!!!!
The K-Byte ram does not run in my 6809!
I had all kinds of boot problems with it, am I missing something?
I am running the new bios in the 6809. I stick the ram in my Averatec 3150 and it runs fine. I would not of bought a gig for that thing though.

Did I just blow money for nothing, or am I missing something? Maybe I need to get better quality ram.....

you mean year from now you will still keep your same laptop? man, i canceled my plan to upgrade the hard drive and memory when i saw the turion64 is coming, damn it, i need more battery power, when the turion64 comes and if we get any info about the power consumption of the turion 64 dual core i may even wait for the second and sell my m6809. and i dont think this is far, next year at this time we maybe 2-3 months more we will see the dual core turion64.

i love my m6809 so much (regardless of hard drive performance) but the battery life sucks, now i cant get more than 2 hours.

My battery life stands currently at slightly over 3 hrs. I'm not sure if I really need to spend another 1500-2000 just for 1 more hour of battery life, since in every other respect an ML-32 laptop will perform about the same as mine. Well, good luck anyways with your upgrade in a few months. But sooner or later I will be moving onto the Turion. But Laptop upgrades is secondary to my desktop upgrades, which I perform every 6 months or so; LTs maybe every 18-24 months.

Can anyone give me insight as to why this K-byte memory won't run in my M6809?

I am running the 0F08.P00 bios.
I ordered the ram from the link at the top of this post.

When I try to run this ram I get a BSOD and the computer reboots, when it does go into windows, it says it had to run a backup of the registry.

I try it a couple times and always the same. I put the 512 stick back in and no problems.

I took the K-byte ram and put it in my Averatec 3150 and it runs fine, no problems, but I bought it for the M6809 and would like to use it.

Any Ideas??????

Have you tried to run it in the safe mode? If it had to run revert to a backup version of the registries then something on your boot drive might have been corrupted. Did you see a blue screen message, any specific memory location mentioned??

to make sure whether it is memory compatibility problem or something else, you have to run memtest for few hours, if you got any errors then the memory isnt working for you, if you didnt then you have OS problem.

The blue screen flashes by so quick I can not read it.
Then the computer reboots. It does this over and over.
I put the 521 back in and all is well....

Yes it will run in safe mode, but I don't know what to do next.

you are getting nice battery life, but note that its you who is getting over 3 hours and not me this is why you maynt think to upgrade it to get more battery life.

another point for upgrading, i hope when turion64 laptops come out they will have newer graphic cards and more ram and 7200 drives.

time will tell

You can press F8 after POST (but before the Windows splash screen) where you can turn off the automatic restart on BSOD. You can also turn it off from within windows in the advanced system properties. You can then read the stop codes. It will sit at the blue screen indefinately until you manually power down.
