Outpost 1GB DDR is back!!.............or is it?? - Page 3

Hmm never seen that one before. If no one else nows anything about it, I will help do some digging around. It would still be a good idea to do what others have suggested and:
a) check safe mode.
b) run memtest86+ from www.memtest.org . They have an iso image that will make a bootable CD for running a good memory analysis.

Here is what MS says about it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q314474
According to them, a driver issue.

I still don't understand the issue as to why it only happens with the K-byte and not the Kingston 512?

It runs flawlesly with the 512, I have also noticed that even in a relatively short time the K-byte gets hot, when run in the 6809 vs the Averatec (which of course is running slower 1.4 ghz)

It would seem if a file were corrupt, ram would not change the issue.

It could be: because of imcompatibility of some windows driver with the BUS unit of the DIMM.

I just had to return the Legacy 2gb ram i bought around christmas time from outpost. It just started giving me all kinds of errors and wouldnt let me do anything. I would install the old 512mb ram and it would run fine. I hope the kbyte works better this time than the legacy, otherwise this was a big waste of money.

What's their return policy like, it sounds like some of us who got the K-byte might need it a few days down the road. Do you get full refund for returns, what's the restocking fee like??

I just got the K-byte stick and installed it. So far, no problems 5 minutes after installation, everything seems normal. I'll keep you guys updated about the status if anything should happen.

Welp,

I received the K-byte RAM last week. I installed one stick and it appeared that everything was working fine. However, when i tried to run WoW, the system told me a had corrupted files and to re-install the game. I removed and tried to re-install and I kept getting errors during the install. I pulled the 1 gig stick and replaced it with the stock 512 stick and the install proceeded without a problem. I put the suspect 1 gig back in the system and ran memtest and i got a ton of errors right off the bat.

I then pulled the suspect 1 gig stick and replaced it with the other 1 gig stick i ordered, ran memtest and no errors. Now I'm re-installing WoW and not receiving any errors.

I will be RMA-ing the bad stick for a new one.

Update:

I ran memtest for 10 hours 19 mins on the good K-byte 1 gig stick with zero errors. Everything seems to be working fine and most likely the other stick was just a bad one in the bunch.

I bought the 1gig K-byte, and it seemed to work fine... but, for some reason... my system will completely freeze for no apparant reason. I could be surfing with IE.. ot it could just be running the screensaver. i dont know if it is the ram... it isnt highly frequent... very spurratic, but annoying nonetheless... could this be the ram?

Yes, it's probably causing the device driver to be stuck in an infinite loop. It could be something else, but if I were you, I would check out the RAM first, K-byte's not exactly known for their quality.

k-byte is basically the bottom, the guy at outpost told me that the legacy electronics company could not produce the chips fast enough because of the high demand. This tells me it must have been high quality and high compatibility. It's a shame they stopped selling it as mine work flawless.

All in all kbyte has always worked for me in cheap desktop upgrades, so im sure it will work fine for laptops.

Try to reload all of your device drivers, with the latest versions from the manufacturers, and see if that still happens.

So on a 7422GX, for example, if you wanted to upgrade the speed of the RAM to PC3200, you would have to upgrade both the internal and external slot for it to work properly, correct?
For it to work at PC3200 speeds (DDR400), yes. If you replaceonly one stcik, it will run at PC2700 (DDR333).

What's the fastest memory we can utilize in our 7422GXs? Also, how much of a performance increase is it. Would it make enough of a difference to warrant the cost?

just wondering if this ram will work on my M6811
more comments?

PC3200. There are some reasonable PC3200 modules out there. If you were going ot be using both slots and memory bandwidth is at a premium, it would probably be worthwhile for you to go ahead and get the PC3200. If you only planned to put one stick in now and not another until a good ways down the road, you would probably be best served just getting a PC2700 stick. The low latency of the A64 memory controller makes the difference between PC3200 and PC2700 seem smaller.
