uugh...Compusa and bestbuy...SUXORZ. Curciut city was rated No. 1 best electronics store by a PC magizine...I forget which one... but I went in with my dad to circuit city...dang yo. it was awesome... my dad got my mom a Compaq, and for FREE... installed Norton internet security and spysweeper, for FREE. the salesman was nice, and didnt bombard us, asked us what we were looking for. I'm a techie and I didnt feel like i was talking to an IDIOT. which is what i get 80-100% of the time I'm at bestbuy or compusa. but the best part while they loaded on her software, they had a really cool "waiting area" set up. 1/2 of it was a big screen TV and a comfy couch and you could watch movies, and the other half of it were two high end Gaming PC's set up and they had COD 2 running on them. I played COD 2 the entire time and it was awesome. they also sold candy and sodas for the movie half. Circuit City also gets the Win fot having verizon kisoks in them that dont sell the crappy red bars of death phones (the ones that tipycally arent sold at ACTUAL Vzw stores)

when i had problems with mine I had the same problems with a delay. What i recomend if its a say lcd or ac power problem and its not under warenty by the part online yourself then take it to a repair center you trust. Be it a certified center or not. When I had problems with ac toshiba wanted to replace the whole mother board at a cost of $500 + labor. I decided that was dumb of course. Replace the whole board instead of soder a new one on <<. Did some research and found the part online bought it for $7 which included shipping and had it sodered on for $30 incuding labor. I have found the ceritifed centers if you dont have a warenty to be the very slow way to get my laptop fixed.

Sounds like how my first HP died; it was a CompUSA (Fountain Valley, CA) purchase and repair.

I had a Pavilion N5190 (PIII/700Mhz) for 2 1/2 years and when the modem died, they ordered a s/tload of parts and kept it for almost three weeks. When I got it back, the keyboard and the front keys didn't work. When I came to pick it up, they LOST my AC power cord and tried to give me one for a Dell. They ordered me another one and in the meantime, I was without a powercord for a week. >:-(

When I was finally able to power it on and find out the keyboard didn't work, the doofus behind the counter *dropped* it when he was taking it to the repair room. The store manager offered me full value of the laptop minus $50, which I didn't have a problem w/ because it was 2 1/2yrs old.

I bought my first Mac (12" Powerbook 867Mhz) w/ that money and that was an even bigger mistake (in for repair 4 days later, bad hinges). I've owned 3 HP laptops (N5190, ZV6000, and now a DV1000) and each has served me quite well. The N5190 had a bad hard drive after a few weeks of owning it, but HP fixed it in 3 days time (incl. shipping). The ZV6000 ended up going to my nephew and the DV1000 is just a dream to type on.
