Notebook Battery

Hi guys,

My only experience with notebooks has been ownage of a gateway during highschool (~4 years back). Naturally, its pretty redndant technology now and i've been back on desktops for the past 2 years.

The major problem i had with the gateway was the battery!! I must've had it replaced 9 times because after prolonged charge/discharge it would eventually become useless (ie. stay 0%).

My query is:

How's the battery of present day laptops?

If i got a DTR and stayed on dc power for long periods does it wear down the battery life considerably?

the new li-on batteries in DTR are very good at maintaining battery life. i know that I have a lappie that's plugged in most of the time, but the battery life is still quite close to the original level (3:50ish (over a year old)).

I know that Asus and Clevo both warrantee their batteries for a year (although I don't think consumers can take advantage of it from Clevo), so I'd guess at least a year's worth of battery life is fairly standard.

IIRC, li-ion batteries have a circuit that prevents the battery from getting more charge than it needs. I don't know if that is right... I think I've read it on:

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/ - I didn't double-check what I told, but, anyway, this site is great.
