9300 which warranty did you get?

For those of you that bought the 9300 which warranty did you choose?

I went with the 1 year. Are Dell laptops reliable enough or should I go with the 2 year? I've had Dell desktops and they are good enough to just get 1 year, but I've never had a Dell laptop before.

Just the minimal 1 year deal for me.

If something fails, it will most likely fail in the first few months.

Here's what I do:

1) Get the 1 year warranty.

2) Avoid the mail-in repair depot. Either ask them to send you parts directly, or upgrade to on-site service.

3) Add a computer rider to your home-owners policy. It's cheaper than Dell's Complete Care, but gives you the same sort of coverage. If you don't have a home owner's policy, go ahead and get Complete Care. Laptops are fragile.

I got the 2 year because that's the only way SB sells it so you can get the oops protection, too. But it will also boost the resale value significantly since Dell supports warranty transfer fully. For the extra year of warranty I got, I usually get an additional $100 for the notebook over the cost of it than without. See you next year. (Or in the fall, or around Christmas.)

3 year onsite and 3 year oops! There is a Dell certified tech at my work and so I can get it serviced there. Also, I am supposed to get the same cert (through my work) and so I will then be able to service (order parts) when/if needed.

I got the one year from small biz site. my credit card will double the warranty for free.

just the 1 year with CC. I usu. don't keep the laptop past a year anyway, or maybe just over a year. I may upgrade to 2 years within the timeframe, but not sure yet.

I'm just curious, because I keep forgetting about that. I have an Amex card, I think they cover something, but I'm not sure what.

Well, with EPP you get a 6% discount with a 1/2 year warranty and a 12% discount with a 3 or 4 year warranty. The additional 6% more than covers the added cost of going from 1 to 3 year, plus they are currently offering 4 years for the price of 3 so....I went with the 4 year warranty.

I think it covers accidents, spills, theft, etc...but I am not 100% sure.

I agree with dellbert. I add the laptop to my homeowners insurance for $13 per year. Mine includes accidental coverage also. If you don't have this type of policy available, then go with Dell's.

4 year with CompleteCare. EPP made it practically free.

1 year default for me... no way I can afford the extra $350+ for the 3 year plans. I don't expect to be using it after 2 years..

I went 3 years with CC. Was going to do 2 years but with the mail in rebate 3 years was about $10 more.

CC won't cover theft, but I can speak from experience on one of your questions: My brother left the top of his case open, it slipped when he was walking to his car and his notebook flew out right on to the pavement. Popped the screen out and everything. CompleteCare got him a new notebook (it was a latitude about 18 months old) as it would have cost too much to fix.

So if you accidentally drop it, or spill soup or a soft drink on it, or yank on a cord too hard and break a USB port off (I have done that), or pretty much anything related to "accident" then CC covers you, up to the point of completely replacing your notebook with one of equivelent value.

If it gets stolen at the airport, or burns down along with your hotel room, then CC does not cover it. That's where other forms of insurance come in handy.

ok my parents are house owners ..... and i am gonna be paying the laptop by credit card.......now....which is my best option on small business and home... with small business i save around 100 something then with home on the total price of the laptop... so i just need suggestions on either one , like which warranty from each one will be good for me knowing that my parents are house owners and can get some sort of damage warranty with the laptop under the homes insurance and knowing that i can get some sort of warranty with the credit card.. so whats the best situation i can put myself at this moment so far this is what is holding me back from buying the 9300 right now....like which warranty from home will be good and which warranty from small business will be good...
