i have 1 dead pixel on my asus, the store that i bough it from memoryexpress.com said they would return it to asus to get it fixed but i didnt want to lose my laptop for a week so i said screw it lol. its not that anoying but if i had 3 or more i would definatly return it.
can dead pixels NOT be there when you purchase your laptop but then appear over time? as in can a pixel burn out over time?
edit: i do agree with the end statement there, if you pay $6K or some crazy amount for your laptop i would expect it to be PERFECT in every way. same with buying a car for $200K it better damn well be dent free, scuff free, bad smell free.

That is very interesting, and I do understand that the industry would raise prices if they accepted only 'perfect' screens.
It seems to be one of the only area's of the PC industry where imperfections are allowed.
I recently purchased a Viewsonic VP912b LCD, and I must say it is beautiful. There is one red pixel (completely dead) to the upper right. It is noticeable on a white or very light background/pic, but in games it is pretty much nonexistant.
If I had the chance to return it, I don't know if I would being there is no guarentee that the next screen I get will be 'perfect'.

For most people a dead pixel on their new laptop or lcd is okay, my mate bought a new pc a month back spent $2000 and first time i saw it I noticed that he had 3 red dead pixels. I asked him about it and he just said that the lcd came like that and was not that bothered. But for me I would be bothered, its like buying a new car with 3 black dots on the front window it would distract me while driving

I have a dead pixel on my Gateway. Doesn't bother me too much. I never bothered to even check what the return policy was on dead pixels. I figure even if they would fix it they would want me to send the laptop back and that's just not worth one dead pixel, IMO. If there's one thing I've learned as a consumer, it's that if you're too fussy, you'll likely end up with something worse.

Personally, dead/stuck pixels don't bother me much. I have like 4-5 on one of my LCDs (another that's perfect though), and my work LCDs have dead/stuck pixels as well. Had a laptop in the past that had a couple as well.
I'd rather a screen not have them, and if there's a premium service that i can pay (maybe an extra $200 or so) to guarantee i won't get a dead pixel, i would probably take advantage of it.

What do you guys mean a lot of money? I remember back while Laptop cost $6000 a pop and you still have to deal with dead pixel all the time (it's more the norm that you will get a couple dead pixel back then). Nowaday you can get a kick ass laptop for $2000 and you guys are bitching and moning just because a few of them have a deadpixel or two.

I recently bought a Compal CL56 and after a few days worth of use, noticed it had 4 partially lit pixels. Even though 3 of them are in a vertical line, they only appear on dark backgrounds and do not bother me at all, must be the high SXGA resolution... My last laptop had a single partially lit pixel that just drove me crazy. It was XGA and it just seemed so much more promiment.
I've been working for over 4 years in the IT industry and hundreds of laptops have come across my desk. Out of all the brands and models, not a single laptop I had worked with (aside from the ones I've personally bought for myself) had any dead or partially lit pixels. Sucks, doesn't it?

Like i said, if there is some sort of premium models or service that guarantees you a flawless LCD for $200 more than normal price, then you'll see how important these dead pixels really mean.

Sometimes dead pixels are right there in front of your eyes. If i stop thinking about it I dont notice it, but then I look at that area and I see it and I notice it for about 5 minutes before I forget about it... and the cycle continues.
