Odd performance "hiccups"

I don't know if anyone else is encountering these problems, but my brand new 8890 seems to be suffereing from performance "hiccups". Sometimes, when I right click, it pauses for a second or two in the middle of the menu fade. In my favorite free 3d modelling application, blender, found at www.blender.org, the menu takes FOREVER to pop up. Has anyone else had these odd performance hiccups? A 3ghz machine should not have problems with this....

Check your Windows power settings. Perhaps the hard drive(s) spud down due to inactivity. Then spun back up when you hit the menus.

Nah, that's not the problem... I'm running off AC power, and the power settings won't shut down the hard drives when on AC. Besides, I don't hear the drives spin up or down. I have raid, would that have anything to do with it?

If its always during the menu fade, you can turn off the menu fading. As long as your program honors the menu-fading option in WinXP, you can just turn it off.

In the Display Properties, under Appearance -> Effects you can turn off the fading.

Perhaps there is a problem with the 2D video driver. Maybe it is a little glitchy when it comes to alpha blending.

I wish I could help more, but I haven't yet received my 8890.

Yeah, I could do that, but my program is still glitchy and slow. However, I find that installing the non-whql ATI drivers in addition to their control panel stuff, greatly improves performance. Now it only happenes very occaisonally...

you have the wrong video driver installed. someone else was having the same problem and it all when away after 7.93 was installed over the whql version.

Yeah, I switched to the non-whql drivers, version 7.89, and it works very well now. Thanks for all your help!
