i8600 (2ghz) and speedswitchXP

Has anyone used the speedswitchXP program on an i8600 with the PM 2ghz processer? I've had some odd skips while running Doom and UT2004. Since the video card is more than able to handle those programs, I've been leaning towards thinking the speedstepping in the machine isn't being handled well. It's running XPsp2, so there's no *real* way to set the speedstepping of the processer. Once can never really be sure that when you set up parameters on the powermanagement, that it's really working...

is speedstep running at max performance or switch or max battery?

also, are you trying these games on battery?

No games on battery, and, from what I've seen with XP, you can't actually find out what the sppedstep settings are (I could be wrong about that, since I've JUST started to look into this and haven't actually been on my computer for any length of time since Sunday). Apparently your power setup makes changes in how speedstep is applied to the computer, which makes sense. But from what I've read, there's no way in XP to determine what speed the processor will run at.

So, I'll stry speedswitchXP and hope that it works for me. Unless someone else has a differrent suggestion?

If you just want to know what speed the laptop is running at try FanGUI.

I've noticed that when the Dell quickset max performance is on, the CPU speed, according to fangui, will still only be a third of what the processor is capable of.

Both those programs work well on my 9200, not sure about the 8600 though.

Cool. I'll try and grab FanGUI tonight. My 8600 is no longer in the same state as it was when Dell sent it. I changed a lot of the power settings already.

it'll work for the 8600.
